City of New Mombasa - what is it? Mombasa sounds familiar - where have I heard it before?

Do you think this is what they planned on showing at E3? (the game or the trailer). Its interesting that it seems to be an expansion to Halo 3 of some sort. I'm just glad i didn't spend all day watching the countdown.

-on a serious note a countdown for a trailer is bull sh*t. Isnt it the 1 year anniversary of halo 3? Why dont they just give us the bloody update. The reason for all this hoopla is because they want to dethrone Call of Duty 4 as the no1 game on xbox live.

New mombassa ( Which i called above!!), is a city is halo 2 which is tactically important to eath because it has a space teather which connected to an orbiting dock. The city got wrecked in halo 2 when a coventant ship went into to hyper space within the atmosphere (it kind of creates a vortex in its wake when the ship travels). So theis could be us following on from that story in a time frame parallel to while the chief goes off and has fun in halo 3. Or a prequal to the halo 3 story ( so when the coventant breach earths defences and attack city after city looking for the arc).

It looks like New Mombasa. You can see the large Orbital Tower thing that was in that, and "Traxus" is the name of the company that makes the Yellow Civilian Warthog, and adverts for that were in the Halo 2 New Mombasa level.

The explosion looks exactly like the one in Halo 2, but that entire area was destroyed and excavated to become The Ark, so I don't think the timeline fits. Noticeable change of graphical style though, it looks slightly cel-shaded now.

EDIT - It actually says "New Mombassa" in the trailer. :fp:

So it must be taking place right after the slipstream jump destroys the city during Halo 2, as it's a giant hole when Halo 3 starts.

Nice teaser but no clue what it means. Looks like a single player expansion set after maybe Halo 3.

Agreed.

I'd really love a new campaign to play through seeing that Halo 4 will be quite a few years away. This is one of the things I thought was fantastic about the add-on packs for oblivion, giving you substantial new content to play through once you've completed the game.

This must be what Nathan Fillion was talking about. He was said to have been back in the studio recording for Halo 3 over the summer.

I actually can't wait for more single player Halo 3. I doubt it'll be Master Chief as prepare to drop is the motto of the ODST's isn't it? I think it is from one of the books.

If you aren't playing as Chief then a lot of the gameplay with have to be reworked. You'll have no shield, won't be able to jump as high, your melee will be weak as hell...

It definitely looks like it takes place from Halo 2, when the Covenant ship jumps into slipspace, with the Chief on his ship following. If you look at 00:10 - 00:12 there's a nose of a Covenant ship, and the next shot of the same scene is the big explosion that followed. It also focuses specifically on 16 drop ships, which may be a squad or 2 of ODST's. Add to that the final focus on one solitary drop ship, which could be anything, but seems important. Another Spartan? Some awesome Commander?

My guess is a side story starring these 'ODST' guys (Orbital Drop Shock Troopers?), that'll cover what happened on Earth between MC leaving in Halo 2 and returning in Halo 3. Maybe we'll get those epic battles as promised in the original Halo 2 reveal, or even the epic battle in those Diorama vids.
