Might wait until the weekend and if we have no new interest, drop the price and I'll take the hit on my side of the money just to get everything moving again.

They say moving-house is the most stressful thing ever, completely agree, just want this house shot, want to move, have this divorce finalized and start my life again.


Still not moved. :(

We had a new buyer offer the same week we relisted for the full amount and my house was still on the market.

It's just a drag with solicitors and everything now, think we're towards the end and hoping to move Early/Mid-Nov but trying to get any info from the solicitors in regards to estimated completion is like banging your head against a brick wall.

I've signed the Transfer Documents and Contract papers for my new house today and sent them to solicitor, hoping that means we're near the end and almost ready to exchange but there's still queries needing answered by the seller's solicitors.

Now the buyers solicitors of mine are asking if we'll do a full electric test on the house which isn't cheap. I've said it'll be cost dependent, now we're waiting to hear if it's a demand or not from the buyers.

Ex-wife's house fell through and she's now offered on somewhere else, but has accepted it won't be tied up in this chain so she's moving into rented accomodation when we complete to allow this chain (only 3 buyers, My New House < Our House < Our house buyers house) so should be relatively painless when it actually comes to the move.


Another month later and still not completed :fp:

All waiting on my purchase as both my solicitor and the sellers are gooseberry fool so we (myself, seller and estate agents) have to constantly chase them to get anything done.

Got to the point where now they've decided they need a Deed of Variation for my property which is going to take 'a few weeks'. With the rest of the chain ready and pushing non-stop about completing I've advised to remove my house from the chain and let the rest go through.

So now it looks like 29th will be completion date (just waiting on the parties to confirm), my ex-wife is moving into an AirBnB up here with my boy as hers is still a couple of months away, I'm moving down to Thirsk into my parents for 'a few weeks' until mine is ready to complete. I consdiered the AirBnB route as well so I could stay up in Newcastle and see my boy but it's so expensive for only a handful of weeks.

Not ideal but hopefully I'll be moved in before Christmas. Even if it is the week before :dread:

Completion date agreed yesterday for 29th.... now I'm chasing solicitors to actually exchange which seems impossible. I can't book anything to move down to my parents until we've exchanged and I definitely know it's happening on the 29th. Same as my ex-wife and her AirBnb, she doesn't want to be paying for somewhere else if we've not actually moved.

I'm sure it'll get done in the next day or so but who knows. Just very frustrating. Now a weekend to finish off packing and getting everything sorted and ready.

Living with my parents at the age of 36.... this is going to be hell once the charm of it wares off :lol:

Another day chasing today and still not a single reply at all from my solicitor on exchange or when she expects it to happen..... :fp:

I've now drafted an email to send at 11am tomorrow if she doesn't reply in the morning with the Directors of the firm cc'ed in to say how unprofessional ignoring four emails in four days is and that I've stressed in every email I'm trying to sort out accommodation for my kid but cannot until exchange has happened.

Shouldn't be this hard to organize/shouldn't be this hard just to reply to give me an update. It's only two houses and three parties it's not like a massive chain with 10 houses in. :evil:

It doesn't help you, but that's just standard for conveyancing solicitors. They are all utterly useless fuckwits.

I could understand it if they were being paid by the hour. But with a fixed fee? :fp:

I guess it's a matter of taking on too many cases and not having the time to process them all efficiently/competently.

Well email was sent to her and the directors. Immediately got a phone call from her (the first time I've ever managed to get to speak to her on the phone), she was arguing that I'm being unreasonable emailing each day. I explained I'm only emailing each day because doesn't reply. Went back and forth and I kicked off a bit. Then she drops a bomb shell that my purchase is actually ready and can be tied back in with the rest of the chain.... two weeks since she said it would take 4-6 weeks to get mine ready. :fp:

So now I'm waiting on the exchange to still happen, she's assured me she will chase the buyers and see what's what. And then I'm waiting to hear from my sellers if they're ok to complete next Wednesday too..... While also cancelling all the plans I had with my parents to move everything into their house.

Yeah I definitely think it's this. They work on a high volume basis.

Spent all day packing today, finally at 3.45pm got confirmation that the exchange on the whole chain has gone through :toot: :toot: :toot:

All smooth and moved in yesterday without any issues.

10 hours of loading up the house into a van and then unloading into the new house. If I ever move again I’ll definitely be hiring a removals company to do the work. I’m aching all over today. Ended up going to sleep on the mattress on the floor yesterday at 9pm.

But today’s been productive. So far built my boys room, sorted my bedroom until I get proper furniture ordered, sorted the kitchen and finally setup the new internet and tv box which arrived this morning.


Just got the mancave and lounge to do, might try and get my pc setup tonight but im already knackered so might be in bed by 10pm.

Excellent news, Chalmers.

Getting people to do the moving for you on moving day is absolutely the way to go if feasible; yes it costs money but the amount of time and energy it saves you, enabling you to get setup in the new place sooner is so worth it.

Yeah we used professional movers last time (plus hired a van for fragiles and business equipment etc.) as we (mostly I) have so much gooseberry fool for art, music, collecting etc :shifty: but also just furniture. I was so spaced out I literally sat on the floor playing the guitar while a bunch of guys just heaved everything in and put boxes in respective rooms.

It was basically my job to unpack everything but strawberry float doing 100% of the actual moving. We were forced to move by landlord so felt the least we could do was give ourselves one less bit of stress (and potential pain/injuries).
