Yeah like the seller pays for the home report and nearly every property is freehold. Sounds terrible.

while it sucks that there is this whole 10% over shite, the fact the once the offer is in, it is binding. Not all this waiting for contracts to complete and if someone backs out it its time to start again with a enw house and paying out for a new survey etc.

House prices in Bristol have more than tripled since the Golden Jubilee

House prices in Bristol have more than tripled since the Queen’s Golden Jubilee 20 years ago. Back in March 2002, as the Queen was celebrating 50 years on the throne, the average home in Bristol was worth £98,967.

By the time she hit her Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the average price had risen to £173,261. In time for the Platinum Jubilee, the latest house price data from the Land Registry shows average prices in the area were £338,582 in March this year - that’s a 242% rise in 20 years.

In Bristol, a detached home is now £662,780 on average, compared to £189,120 in 2002, while semi-detached homes have risen from £114,104 to £425,610. The average price of a terraced home in March this year was £352,331, compared to £94,775 in 2002, while flats have seen a smaller rise, although they have still seen average prices go from £89,110 to £256,514.

Watching Homes Under the Hammer and a guy with 26 years experience in Investment Banking calls himself 'innovative' when he turns a 3 bed semi in Beeston into a 6 bed HMO for students, netting ~£39,000 a year in rent. The place before sees someone buy a place in Sevenoaks to rent, adding it to the other 25 properties he has accumulated over the years. Apparently retired in 2000 from working in the garage he owned, and plays golf six days a week.

Doubt it. It'll mean higher rent (less rental properties) and I doubt house prices will drop at all because of it.

I wouldn't mind more houses coming on the market, there is strawberry float all right now and when something does come up there are so many people ready to move on it.

Gotta overthrow the "landed gentry" (and their monarchic overlord, obvs) so we can build on the other third of the country that they currently own

This plan to allow renters to take out a mortgage using their benefits seems just about the most un-Conservative policy I've ever heard of . Surely this is going to enrage their base, particularly those in low pay, just above the benefits threshold?

In principle I'm all for it, but it needs to be followed up with greatly-increased house building and enhanced rent protections.

As per usual, it's Tory lies.

It depends why they're selling up. If the cost of living crisis is stopping them for making a profit it doesn't bode well for home owners.

Edit: Also a lot are probably worried about the price of the homes dropping. A lot of landlords make most of their money selling and pocketing the price rises.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

Where is it you're looking Stugene?

Around the northside of Glasgow. Scotstoun, Dennistoun, Maryhill, Anniesland. It seems like all the people looking at stuff in my price range just have an extra 10-20k in their deposit money and it makes me want to strangle them.
