I was genuinely moaning about the bins today as several houses have them out a day early, so there's rubbish rolling down the road and in the garden already.

You'd be apoplectic if you lived round our way at the moment.

Delays due to weather and Covid have caused problems for the collectors who have told people to leave stuff out until they can get to it. It has been over a week now! :dread:

I realise it's hard to give an exact price without getting salesmen in, but how much does double glazing cost on average?

We have single pane wooden windows at the front of the flat and they are rotten. We've needed to replace them for years, but I've put it off as all my money was tied up in fighting the wanker freeholder.

Oh we used to dream of having rotten windows, would have been like a palace to us! We used to just have old sheets of tarpaulin instead of windows.

Avoid Safestyle, Anglian, Everest who employ more salespeople than fitters. The only benefit to choosing them would be if you wanted to pay on finance, and they expect you to haggle on price.

Yeah I'm avoiding the big name companies, I've never heard anything good about them.

I'm just curious what sort of price I'm going to be looking at. We need 2 windows and are not looking for anything fancy, just new ones so the place is easier to sell.

I don't have experience of Windows (OSX LOL!!!), but I think they're the sort of thing that's going to be more expensive if you just get a couple done rather than a whole set (a the people doing it may not want the smaller job). We recently had our front door replaced, which included a new frame and porch plastic plate thingy and it cost £1000, which was on offer.

Wickes sell windows so you could take a rough measurement to get a good idea, then around £150 for fitting, but it depends where you are.

Make sure to get multiple quotes for double glazing. We found a staggering disparity from companies offering basically the same thing. We had some new double glazed french doors put in a while back and both reputable companies wanted £1200 and £2200 respectively.

We had 9 Windows and 2 front doors replaced about 6 months back and came to 7.5k if it helps, included scaffolding to go over the conservatory so they could do the windows over that properly and that.

I'm paying a local company £12.5k for a composite front door, about 15m2 of A-rated double glazing and 4x2.5m bifold doors, all with an optional colour change. They also need to do some building work. The place where the bifolds are going in is actually a back door with 3.5m worth of windows on a wall. Replacing that like for like, rather than bifolds brought the cost down to ~£9k.

A different company quoted about £750 cheaper for a similar basic spec. An advert for another local company indicated that I'd be paying £8-10k for everything to be replaced.

Everest quoted £50k but said with their discounts they could bring that down to £22k. :lol:

I don't know how Everest do any business. I've known so many people who've turned them down for being obscenely overpriced when getting quotes.

Bifold doors are expensive so that's probably bumping andre's quote up quite a bit!
