I assume you'll be putting the kibosh on any buy-to-let Landlord Scum from taking it off your hands, even if it does grant you a bit more green, right Moggy? 8-)

He came back to drop their fee from 1% to 0.9% but also said they have around 7 people lined up to view the flat.

Sounds like bollocks to me, why would they have people lined up before I've agreed any contract with them?

It's made me hesitate though, if they have a few lined up, it sounds like investors rather than first time buyers, which could make things easier.

Hmmm.

They probably have people that subscribed to on a list for properties of a certin type and so this matches their criteria so would be alerted and then when you hit the go button.

Yeah that sounds a bit like them making up something to keep hold of you, but then I don't really know how estate agents work - perhaps they do start getting hold of potential buyers even before you've agreed to work with them?

Yeah. You get signed into a contract with them. The one I chose means I'd be stuck with them for 4 weeks. The other one I'd be tied to for 8 weeks. I'm thinking if my chosen one is gooseberry fool then I can always just sack them in a few weeks.

I'm not sure that it's bullshit when I was buying I got showed a load of houses I didn't ask to view. You just ring up an agent and they try and show you everything they've got.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

Tbf I'd feel better about selling to some sketchy landlord than dumping your con artist management company on some unfortunate and unsuspecting regular folk

Usually I'd agree that letting a nice first time buyer in would be better. But given the problems moggys had, might be better to let the landlords suffer a similar fate.

That's actually a really good point. Morally I should be selling to scumbags so that they can fight the other scumbags.

The whole property market from rental to buy to let is disgusting. The whole thing needs to be torn up.

But the system isn't going to collapse through me taking a stand. I'll be looking after myself and my family, it can crash and burn after that.

The estate agent I chose emailed me yesterday with a questionnaire for details on the flat and to ask for some copies of ID. I replied very early this morning but haven't heard anything since.

I know estate agents are famous for being slow but I thought they'd be super speedy at least at acknowledging my reply. I haven't signed a contract yet and the lack of speed from them isn't filling me with confidence.

Am I being overly paranoid?

So you didn't get a reply the same day you sent it?

I'd say yes, you're being overly paranoid. I'd only be following up if I hadn't had a reply by end of week.

Yeah I wouldn't be concerned either. Estate agents tend to have a day off during the week as they work the Saturday more often than not.

It's fairly likely the EA didn't switch on an out of office auto reply.

I'm just impatient to get on with it. I don't expect them to have everything sorted in a day, but an acknowledgment doesn't take long. Plus his email yesterday made it sound like they were keen to get the photographer booked in ASAP.

I'll chill out a bit. ;)

Just had my house valued and it's gone up £85k over the 5 years we've been here. If this is a property boom then bring it on!

The problem with booms is unless you're moving to a significantly different area or downsizing then any value you have gained is wiped out by the extra you'll pay on somewhere you move to :dread:

This. Your options are:

1. Sell up
2. Move to Wales and upsize for the same money
3. Hello butt
