Best quote I got in the end was 1.7k. Went with the solicitors my mortgage advisor recommends and since he's trustworthy I'm going with him (every other quote I got was around that mark but companies I didn't know).

Mortgage application got accepted. I guess things are moving forward now.

Be prepared for the sellers agents to be idiotic bellends.

Great news that it was accepted but don’t expect thing to move very quickly. Even if everything goes smoothly the solicitors will still take an ungodly amount of time to process it all.

When I bought my flat it was as simple as could be. I was renting and the flat was empty and owned by a company desperate to sell. And it still took months and months before it completed.

Well I've been given a strict 28 day deadline to Exchange, so I hope it doesn't take months.

Buying a house is easily the most stressful thing I've ever had to do, the amount of bollocks to deal with for weeks and months on end constantly is infuriating.

It was stressful, but not as bad as I thought it would be. The estate agents were morons. Kept phoning me asking what was going on with my solicitors, when I knew as much as they did.

I had more stress buying a car recently tbh.

Unfortunately giving you deadlines isn't the same as deadlines for everyone else.

Generally my world experience that whenever I meet deadlines it's a strawberry floating waste of time because other people take an age to fulfil their part of whatever obligations they've typically agreed to follow.

Infinite £
Infinite minutes

It's the way it is. Just do stuff until it's done is about the only advice I can stand up for. Maybe I'm starting to feel time passing faster and faster

We completed our house move just over two weeks ago - from agreeing a price on the place to finally moving in was a period of about 3 months, which considering some of the hurdles we experienced was not too bad going.

It was absolutely the most stressful experience that I have ever gone through and I have no strawberry floating desire to do it again any time soon - if I can make it work so that I live my next 50 odd years and die in this house then Happy Days!™

That said whilst there are lots of "general" stress points with moving - solicitors being slow and frustrating to deal with, managing the expectations of a chain, how to transfer your life from one place to another as smoothly as possible, not to mention the sheer bloody cost of it all! But most of stress that can come will vary a lot depending on individual circumstances and how everything plays out for you. I've bought two houses in my life and the first one was an absolute breeze - went from renting to buying a new build off plan and it was a delightful experience!

Yeah, that all got sorted in the end.

The timing was the most frustrating part - if it could have just held out a few weeks longer, or if the house move could have completed quicker! It was massively annoying, and an expense I'd rather not have had to deal with but there you go, at least the people now living in our old house get to experience the benefit of a brand new boiler - lucky them!

I was looking on RoomGo and I noticed that the Landlord for my next door neighbour has a room available as part of a houseshare (top-floor room with terrace and ensuite bathroom) and he's put the price up now to £800 a month, plus a 1 off tenants fee of £100.

£9,700 a year for a room with a 'view' (i.e it's facing in the wrong direction to see any London landmarks). Pure madness.

One thing to remember is the solicitor/conveyancer has to be on the lenders panel.

Just something to keep in mind most are but doesn't hurt to check.

Those kind of fees are illegal now aren't they?

Meeting with a mortgage advisor on Friday. I’m very excited, but quite realistic in the fact that I’m likely to be strawberry floated by temporary/rolling contract work. Shame because I’ve found the holy grail of property, it being a lovely flat in a nice area, with fantastic decor, spacious with lots of light, kerb appeal, and within my expected budget.

The lovely flat I seen sold as expected.

Been offered a low amount due to the nature of my work and that they don’t take total income into account (I’ve worked two jobs for the past year) I don’t want to settle, but waiting two years for a permanent contract at my new job is a chore, though I’ll be offered a lot more at that time. Frustrating knowing that I worked so hard but it doesn’t get me as far as it should because my contract doesn’t say permanent.

Some banks just use 3 months of your wage slips/proof of earnings so that might help you get around the 2 years thing

120 years is fine, the lease will outlast you and anybody that might buy it off of you in the future.
