I'm one of those guys that hasn't bought my own clothes and has been wearing the same wardrobe for years. But everything is wearing out and I'm in dire need of some style.
Where is the best place to order clothes online? Honestly, I have no idea if I should be using places like Topman/Debenhams or if that's all tat and I should be using something else.
I'm absolutely pathetic
Aren't you in your 30s? How?
I'm trying more and more to avoid "fast fashion" brands, even if realistically, most non fast fashion brands are still only really sustainable because of existing production practices and supply chain infrastructure as a result of fast fashion being so prevalent. And my job also involves shipping fast fashion clothing items. A good alternative is to buy second hand/thrift products. Alternatively, items you know will last with care.
I recently got back into raw denim jeans again, basically jeans that are dyed, but unwashed, so they're a uniform dark indigo to begin with, and they fade with wear, so they arrive to you with the least pre-treatment, prolonging their lifespan and reducing the water consumption in production. They're then supposed to mould to you as you wear them and break them in, and the eventual fades that come with washing will reflect how you wear them and the stress you put them through. There's a large part of the "denimhead" community who will swear you should go as long as possible without washing jeans for the best fades, but this is incompatible with having a young child, and also reduces the lifespan of the jeans because all the dirt that builds up eventually damages the fabric.
With that in mind, I'd recommend sticking with 100% cotton for most of your clothing choices. While some Elastane might make things feel a bit more comfortable with stretch, they tend to degrade faster as the elastane can break down, especially if you put them in a tumble dryer, and in my experience, elastane also begins to smell after a long while, and it's really hard to get out properly.
