PostBuying new work computers

We've been given a spec at work for computers they are (finally) about to buy us. We'll use these machines for video, graphics (both web and video) and potential 4K video in the not so distant future. Below are the specs they have given us;

OptiPlex 9020 Mini Tower
1 OptiPlex 9020 Minitower Chassis w/ up to 85 Percent Efficient PSU (Bronze V2)
1 Intel Core i7-4790 Processor (Quad Core, 3.6GHz, 8MB Cache, w/HD Graphics 4600)
1 8GB (2x4GB) 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC
1 1TB 3.5inch Serial ATA (7,200 Rpm) Hard Drive
1 Minitower Chassis Mainstream Heatsink (95watts)
1 16X Half Height DVD+/-RW Drive
1 PowerDVD Software not included
1 System Power Cord (UK/MY/SG/HK/Bangladesh/Brunei/Pakistan/Sri Lanka/Maldives)
1 Chassis Intrusion Switch
1 Intel Core I7 vPro Label
1 No Monitor
1 AMD Radeon 2GB R7 250,Full Height, (DP and DVI-I)
1 Dell Adapter - DisplayPort to DVI (Single Link)
1 Dell Adapter - DVI-A to VGA

Now, to me that seems pretty run of the mill computer in this day and age. I've had a look for myself and found these machines which roughly for the same price seem the better options.

We have to buy through Dell as tha's who they have deals with and no we're not making our own computers.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

You'll be wanting more RAM than that for sure if you are doing video editing.

Moar RAM for RAM previews and SSDs unless you fancy waiting for CC to open and plugins to load all the time. I cannot overstate how much faster it is to work between apps on an SSD. Even QUITTING apps is significantly faster. Trust me I made the decision to kit out an entire video production office with SSDs even for the admin computers and it made a massive difference, even if they ran out of space quick quickly it would have been trivial to drop in extra HDDs. That kind of performance boost is essential for productivity, and at current prices it really should be standard on any performance workstation for the OS.

You are right, anything like that you want to be running on a proper business workstation, and the Dell Precision is their workstation model. Personally I find Dell to have the worst workstations on the market, and you would be better off looking at something like a HP z440. However if you are trapped with Dell, then they would be mad to take an Optiplex over a Precision

The one prebuilt workstation we did have was an HP and it was pretty solid.

The Precisions have Xeon CPUs and Quadro graphics with optimised drivers for cad and graphics processing (although standard directx are getting closer and closer).

Yeah, I just want to get this through to head office. Theyre all clueless.

I know what I need to stick to budget and I think the higher end machine I found is the far superior choice.

To be fair you could probably get a demo of the workstations if you are buying a few (or just say you are) just having one should be enough to convince your company
