Cadbury's to shrink their multipacks even further

Popular treats including Crunchie, Twirl and Wispa bars will contain no more than 200 calories each when sold in a four-pack.

However, the price will stay the same. Bars sold individually will not change.

Chocolate fans took to Twitter to denounce the latest example of what has become known as "shrinkflation".

That is when food manufacturers reduce the weight of their products without shrinking the price.

"We must play our part in tackling obesity and are committed to doing so without compromising on consumer choice," said Louise Stigant, UK managing director at Mondelez International.

When asked why "single-serve" bars were unaffected, a spokesperson for Mondelez said the firm believed in "offering consumers different portion sizes for different occasions".

The spokesperson confirmed that the list price for multipacks would not change and said pricing was up to retailers.

'Profit or health?'

Consumers were sceptical, with one tweeting that Cadbury should change the name of its Double Decker bar to Minibus.

"Cadbury trying to say that the change is for health reasons when it seems painfully obvious it's for profit margins," said another disgruntled customer.

This is not the first time that Mondelez has run into opposition after altering the size of its chocolate bars.

In 2016, it reduced the weight of its Toblerone bar from 200g to 150g by spacing out its distinctive triangular chunks, but it reversed the change two years later.

The good news being that if they reduce the pack sizes, you can eat far more packs.

How much smaller can they get? The multipacks are already essentially down to what was the "fun size" category before!

They seem determined to stick to that £1 promo price point rather than increase the price or lower profits, even if the size of the product becomes farically small.

Cadbury's chocolate is strawberry floating vile nowadays, it was never great to begin with but it's almost inedible now, and in tiny portions too.

I'm sure the real reason is to reduce calories :lol:

Inedible!? Come on mate, a bit of food snobbery is fine but a Cadburys fruit and nut is still bloody good.

It’s either price rises or shrink the size of the product. For years it was always just price rises. The shrinking won’t go on forever and they will have to start upping prices.

At least come up with a believable excuse like "Production costs have increased so we have to either reduce sizes or increase costs".
Hiding behind health reasons though is just transparent bullshit.

So long as they don't touch the massive bars. When I buy chocolate, I only buy the massive bars. More cost efficient.

Haven't bought anything Cadbury's related since they sold out to Kraft, so I'm not bothered by this, but the excuses are laughable. Hiding behind lies about obesity and 'consumer choice' is ridiculous. Shame that when anything like this happens people generally just keep on buying the products anyway.
