"One week. One house. One problem. No way out."

An unsuspecting group of GRcadians have answered an invitation to a lavish mansion party on the coast of Quiet Ewe Cove.
However, upon arrival and their entry to the house, the group has found the main gate into the grounds sealed behind them, and a very unusual 'party' inside...
No food, no drinks, no apparent hosts. Nothing welcoming or party-like. Just an old, seemingly-abandoned mansion.
Upon exploration, the group comes across the barely-breathing corpse of a half-eaten man on the balcony of the central hall.
"F... fl... flee from this... place..." he gasps desperately. "The cannib... the... they are amongst... flee..."

Welcome to Cannibal House!

Cannibal House is a seven day forum game. Players find themselves trapped in a house with, predictably enough, a group of cannibals.
The problem is, the cannibals are hiding amongst the regular players, or 'omnivores'. So it's up to the omnivores to identify and eliminate the cannibals.
Because our group is entirely made up of GRcade forum members, they've decided the best way to do this is the classic 'AYA?' system.
Twice a day, a leader will be chosen from within the group, by the group, in the thread. This group leader will have a four-fold role.
The first thing the leader will do is choose which two other members of the group - two they suspect to be cannibals - will be nominated for elimination.
These two nominees will then face a whole-group, in-thread vote for the chop.
The second thing the leader will do is venture into the basement for an important clue. (See 'The Clue System'.)
The third thing the leader will do is make a decision on behalf of the group. (See 'Decisions and Whisperers'.)
The fourth thing the leader will do is be immune from getting eaten, as upon assuming leadership, they acquire a key to the house's safest bedroom.
(The leader's vote will also be the deciding vote in a lynch situation if the voting is tied.)

The game is basically a race to the finish - can the uninformed majority (the omnivores) discover and kill the informed minority (the cannibals) before the game ends?
The cannibals are aware of one another and can co-operate, whereas any special roles within the ranks of the omnivores are unknown to one another.

If the players fail to identify and kill all the cannibals before the game is over, they will be given one last chance to put things right and identify the remaining cannibals. Mess this finale up, and the game is lost, and the cannibals will win. Cannibals win and lose as a unit, regardless of death i.e. a cannibal whose death is the result of a tactical move by his team will still attain 'winner' status at the endgame if his/her team triumphs. However, for the omnivores, there is no victory in death, making this final chance very significant. Of course, it may not even get to this point, as the cannibals can win the game before the week is up if they manage to make enough kills - if at any point the cannibals outnumber the non-cannibals, they will triumph. Likewise, once and if all cannibals are dead, the omnivores will be able to escape!

Events So Far

Day One - Wednesday 1st June

Day Phase (Phase One)
The Phase began.
An event, 'Expedition', commenced.
The players on the expedition told of their findings.
Corazon de Leon was chosen as Leader.
He missed the deadline for his Leadership duties, but was fortunately granted an extension.
However, he also missed this extended deadline, meaning no protection or clue for him.
The group thus opted not to explore the attic, meaning they didn't discover a stash of weapons that could have helped keep cannibals at bay.
Corazon de Leon was lynched by the group. He was a Friend of the Dead.
Albear, Parksey and The Alchemist Penguin were all found dead. They were all Omnivores.

Night Phase (Phase Two)
The Phase began.
An event, 'Purple Glow', commenced.
The event players told of their acquisitions.
Errkal was chosen as Leader.
He nominated Kezzer and Mini E for the kill.
Mini E was lynched by the group. He was an Omnivore.
The group decided to search for weapon fragments. It turned out to be a waste of time.
Drumstick and PsychicSykes were found dead. Drumstick was a Friend of the Dead. PsychicSykes was an Omnivore.
Then, someone threw up.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Day Two - Thursday 2nd June

Day Phase (Phase Three)
The Phase began.
An event, 'Academia', commenced.
The players returned from the library and told of their findings.
Pancake was chosen as Leader.
He nominated Irene Demova and Kezzer for the kill.
The omnivores guessed right for today's event and decided to attempt some ancient dentistry, spooking the cannibals into just the one phase kill.
Kezzer was lynched by the group. He was a Cannibal!
Lagamorph drank something disgusting. Almost immediately afterward, someone threw up again.
Irene Demova was found dead. He was a Seer!

Night Phase (Phase Four)
The Phase began.
An event, 'Exploration', commenced.
Skippy was chosen as Leader.
He nominated Denster and Lagamorph for the kill.
The group mistakenly decided to dig. Shades of DML's famous treasure map. Just like that game, it was all for nought, and the cannibals retain both kills.
Denster was lynched by the group. He was a Cannibal!
Moggy and satriales were found dead. They were both Omnivores.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Day Three - Friday 3rd June

Day Phase (Phase Five)
The Phase began.
An event, 'Drinking From The Holy Chalice', commenced.
Edd dropped the Holy Chalice. As a result, no-one drank from it.
Errkal was chosen as Leader.
He nominated Diabolito and Frank for the kill.
The group prettied themselves with gaudy outfits and costumes. Achieving precisely nothing.
Frank was lynched by the group. He was a Cannibal!
Qikz was found dead. He was an Omnivore.
Edd was found dead. He was a Friend of the Dead.

Night Phase (Phase Six)
The phase began.
An event, 'Aftershock', commenced.
A group of players crawled into the Old Laboratory.
mcjihge2 was chosen as Leader.
He nominated Songwriter and Super Dragon 64 for the kill.
The omnivores got the decision of the day right, had some food, and limited the cannibals to one phase kill.
Then a purple shockwave blasts through the mansion. It seems the Old Lab was set ablaze.
Super Dragon 64 was lynched by the group. He was the Alpha Cannibal!
euan707 was found dead. He was an Omnivore.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Day Four - Saturday 4th June

Day Phase (Phase Seven)
The phase began.
An event, 'Ruin', commenced.
The bizarre energy running through the house in the aftermath of the purple shockwave halts suddenly.
Errkal was chosen as Leader.
He nominated Ironhide and Cheeky Devlin for the lynch.
Everyone crams into the Cannibaltar passage. It doesn't tell us anything, but wastes enough time to limit the Cannibals' kills to come.
Cheeky Devlin was lynched by the group. He was a Cannibal!
jawafour was found dead. He was an Omnivore.
Then Ironhide exploded. He was the Alpha Cannibal!

Night Phase (Phase Eight)
The phase began.
An event, 'The Blue Pentagram', commenced.
Skippy was chosen as Leader.
He nominated Diabolito and DayumChris xD for the lynch.
Realising this isn't Are You A Werewolf?, the group deduce that going out to see a full moon would have no effect. As such the cannibals are limited to one kill tonight.
DayumChris xD was lynched. He was an Omnivore.
Suddenly, the whole mansion lights up. The group realises that tonight, no-one has been eaten.
Another blast of magical energy lights the house up. WeirdSquid is incinerated. He was an Omnivore.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Day Five - Sunday 5th June

Day Phase (Phase Nine)
The phase began.
An event, 'Surveillance', commenced.
Some players became buddies for the phase. Aww.
In a hugely unexpected move, Errkal was chosen as Leader.
He nominated FatDaz and Pacman for the lynch.
The group broke their streak, and got the decision wrong. But the attic is a nice enough room, I suppose.
FatDaz was lynched. He was an Omnivore.
Hyperion and mcjihge2 were found dead. They were both Omnivores.

Night Phase (Phase Ten)
The phase began.
An event, 'Necronomicon', commenced.
Lagamorph was chosen as Leader.
The Necronomicon burst into flames. Looks like Karl remains a member of the League of Nearly Living, for now.
Lagamorph nominated That's not a growth and Tomous for the lynch.
That's not a growth was lynched. He was an Omnivore.
The group put their faith in some beads and it paid off. The Cannibal lost one of his/her kills.
The phase ended.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Day Six - Monday 6th June

Day Phase (Phase Eleven)
The phase began.
An event, 'Communion', commenced.
Errkal, Nun, mic and Pancake draw a cross in the blue sand.
Skippy was chosen as Leader.
He nominated Songwriter and Pacman for the lynch.
The group are all perverts. But on this occasion, that's a good thing, because it means the Cannibal gets just one kill this phase.
Pacman was lynched. He was the last Alpha Cannibal. The surviving Omnivores have won the game!

Of course, no posting role PMs or screengrabs is allowed.

And as always... NO DEATH POSTING PLEASE.
Just because you're dead doesn't mean the game is over, and we don't want anyone to benefit or suffer from cheating while the game is on.
Plus, who knows? Just because you're dead doesn't mean you don't have a role to play before the game is done.
So once you bite the bullet, bite your tongue too.

How This Game's Phases Work

A phase is the unit of time in Cannibal House. Each phase, to schedule, there will be a question to answer, an event to participate in, a leader to elect, a clue to receive, a lynching to ... lynch, and then at last the cannibals will have their feast.

Each day has two phases. The DAY PHASE between 9am and 4pm is run by the benevolent DAY MASTER, Dan.; the NIGHT PHASE between 5pm and 11pm is ruled by the creepy, unsettling NIGHT MASTER, Karl. All "official" PMs, e.g. the cannibals choosing their kills, must be sent to the correct MASTER or they won't count.

The flowchart for the phases is as follows:
  1. At the start of the phase, the MASTER will pose a question to the group at large.
  2. The phase's event will begin.
  3. The group must then, in-thread, vote for someone to be the leader. This vote takes place in the open.
  4. Once elected, this leader chooses two people who will be locked in the old pantry. The other, non-pantried players then vote for which of these two should be brutally lynched.
  5. After a deadline, the pantried player with the most votes is horrifically murder-killed by the group at large.
  6. Their secret identity will be revealed.
  7. Upon election, a leader will also make a decision regarding that phase's question.
  8. The group at large will learn the outcome of the decision (i.e. whether it helps or hinders the group) at the same time they learn who has been killed.
  9. Upon election, the leader will also obtain a clue. (See The Clue System)
  10. TO CLARIFY, the Leader should submit CANDIDATES, DECISION and a CLUE REQUEST all at once and will THEN learn the OUTCOMES all at once.
  11. Once the outcome of the pantry killing and the decision is known, the cannibals will have an opportunity to feast.
  12. After cannibal kills have occurred, the next phase begins.

Day _| Night | What's up?
Dan. _| Karl _| MASTER
09:00 | 17:00 | The MASTER asks the group a question.
10:00 | 18:00 | The event is announced.
12:00 | 19:30 | Deadline for the leader to be elected.
13:00 | 20:15 | Deadline for the leader to announce lynch nominees, decision, and clue request (all at once).
13:00 | 20:15 | Leader will receive outcomes of their decision and clue request, at the same time, after the requests were made (all at once).
15:00 | 22:00 | Deadline for group to elect one name to be killed.
16:00 | 23:00 | Deadline for cannibal kills to be submitted.
16:00 | 23:00 | Cannibal kills announced.

Decisions and Whisperers

At the start of each phase, the group is given a question. The decision as to how to answer this question lies ultimately with whomever is appointed leader.
Getting it 'right' will benefit the omnivores - the number of cannibal kills later that phase will drop from 2 to 1. Getting it 'wrong' will benefit the cannibals - they keep their 2 kills.
However, the cannibals know which is the 'right' and 'wrong' outcome, and so have this information to use and try and influence the thread.
There are also other players that know of the 'right' and 'wrong' outcome...

There are some omnivores who can hear the whispers of the dead from within the mansion.
These whisperers know what is the 'right' and 'wrong' decision to make for each phase.
Every phase, one of these secretly informed players - known hereafter as Friends of the Dead - will be PM'd the correct path that the group should take.

By getting successive questions right, the ability of the cannibals to kill will be significantly lowered. There will be no progressive lowering of cannibals' kills as their number drops, unlike in previous AYA format games.

Of course, with the Friends of the Dead being few in number and valuable to the omnivore cause, it's up to them as to how they risk circulating their precious information with the rest of the group...

Events

Near the beginning of each phase (see How This Game's Phases Work) an event will be announced. This will generally be a creepy goings-on within the mansion that needs investigating by a handful of brave souls.

Events are first-come-first-serve and sign-ups happen in the open. For instance, should four people be required to lift a creepy piano up some haunted stairs, then it would be the first four people to make it clear in the thread that they volunteer that form the piano-lifting team.

The details of each event will be different. Read each event's description carefully so you know what you're signing up for. But be quick as some events will have both good and bad outcomes depending on who signs up.

You cannot both participate in an event and be that phase's leader. (With apologies to the power-...hungry.)

One last thing: if not enough people volunteer for an event, the event will simply not happen. Read the event description carefully - as we reserve the right to switch this around... - but generally you'll have one hour from its announcement to do the event before it disappears.

The Clue System

Deep in the house, in the lowest basement, is a shrine to all things maneater... The Cannibaltar.
This is the holy, unnerving site which drew the cannibals to the house.
Those of us without the taste for human flesh find this place nothing but eerie... those who worship here find meaning within these walls.
It is impossible for an omnivore to bear being in this place for too long.
(Likewise, the cannibals cannot stay for longer than the omnivores could bear, as otherwise they would give themselves away!)
As such, the group nominates one member to venture into the basement and to study the Cannibaltar.
As part of a pact not to ever eat one another, and to work together to instead draw others into the house and devour them...
The cannibals of this house have signed their names on the Cannibaltar. Years of dirt and grime, blood and bone, have covered these words over.
The nominated group leader can venture into the basement, choose one cannibal's name, and reveal a letter.
They alone will then be entrusted to bring this information back to the group.

Every time the group nominates a leader, this leader will head into the basement and bring back a clue.
The leader can choose which of the cannibals' names to get a clue for. The gamerunner will then randomly give them one letter from that cannibal's name.
e.g. Karl is elected group leader. He chooses cannibal number 1. The gamerunner randomly gives Karl the third letter in cannibal 1's name: N. (The gamerunner will send a message along these lines: "The third letter in cannibal 1's name is N.")
However the gamerunner won't say how many letters are in the name in total (although the number of cannibals will be known.)
The letter chosen from that name will always be completely randomly generated.
The leader will be the only person given this letter - it is up to them to distribute this information to the rest of the group. Thus, the leader may lie.
e.g. Dan is elected group letter. He chooses cannibal number 1. The gamerunner gives Dan the first letter in cannibal 1's name: D.
But Dan is a cannibal, and he knows that this incriminates him as he is cannibal number 1 (cannibals don't know which one they are on the list).
He therefore tells the rest of the group that the letter is T.

To be clear: the gamerunner will not make any of this information public - neither the resulting clue, nor which letter / name the leader has chosen. All of this info will be given only to the leader, upon their election as leader for that phase.

It's up to the omnivores to try and use these clues to work out the identities of the cannibals - likewise, the cannibals must try and disrupt this information as best as possible, without giving themselves away...

PS: The ordering of Cannibals' names is not necessarily their order of prominence within the Cannibal hierarchy. Just FYI.

PPS: Just to clear one thing up: if elected Leader, you need to PM your candidates and your decision to me/Karl before you will be given your clue.

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

One final thing...

We (Karl and myself) are aware that this game is quite ambitious, and you may think that it's asking too much of you: we would never expect every player to be constantly online and available, in the same way that no gamerunner of a previous game would have expected the same. The day and night phases, we hope, will allow some players whose IRL commitments would have meant they'd never be able to get involved in a 'mayor' election, for example, the chance to play during the day's other phase. We hope that everyone will get involved as much as they want and are able to do so, and I can guarantee you that the parameters for decisions and events have been set and will remain in stone, so there will be no randomly-occurring, game-changing events. That said, we reserve the right to make changes in the event of players cheating or maliciously spoiling the game for others, and we also reserve the right to try and cleanup any mess that might be a result of any mistakes we make. We are both human, after all! (Seered as such.) Please bear with us; we hope you thoroughly enjoy the game, and let the great experiment begin!
