This is probably one of the few brand new cars I’d actually be interested in buying brand new, sounds like shaping up to be a decent alternative to the ever popular Fiesta ST. I will have to wait and see what the monthly payments would be like on one of these.....

Cheers the the explanations of gap insurance, never bought a brand new car so never heard of it before, good to know if I do ever opt for a new one in the future (which is mightily tempting sometimes).

I can definitely see the benefits of it in some circumstances, having a quick look it seems better to get it online rather than at the dealership who might want to charge a bit more for it then you can get elsewhere.

Edit, my car’s definitely picked up a rattle today, hoped just one of the exhaust brackets has worked it’s way loose like it’s done once before a few years back.

Had my first 'big run' in my new car today, about a 120 mile round trip. Managed to average 48mpg which I'm pretty pleased with really out of a 2 litre 245 horsepower engine.

Mine passed today too. Also a 07 plate. It stomped all over Europe on its summer road trip too and easily smashed 130 mph on the autobahn.

Well barring needing a new shock absorber my car has passed its MOT (no idea on advisories yet though which there will probably be some of), although yet another wheel speed sensor has gone meaning that’ll need replacing at some point The Civic seems to be at that annoying stage where it sometimes fails but not bad enough to warrant getting rid just yet.

MOT and service day. The dealership I've been going to for about 7 years now has suddenly decided that me telling them the engine light is on, is now a big deal and I should probably take it to the van specialist in Cardiff (this branch is in Newport so that's a 15 minute journey V a 45 minute one). This has never been an issue with them before, as I know full well it's a plug in diagnosis, so I can only assume the van is now of an age that they don't want the hassle and would rather I go somewhere else. Usually an engine light with them is a diagnosis and fix to pass the MOT, so I don't know why they're trying to get rid of me this time. Told them to put it through and they can sort out transfer to the van place if it needs it. Pretty pissed off, I've spent a LOT of money with them over the years, but the last few times the service in there has been really gooseberry fool, so I can only assume they'd just rather I went somewhere else now. Next time I'll just go straight to Cardiff instead and won't use them again.

Oh and they're not wearing any masks and breaking distancing between themselves too, plus were swearing loudly while I was waiting for my rental car to arrive

If it's anything like my local garage they're absolutely rammed with MOTs all the time, and they barely make any money on them, as everywhere's desperate to offer rock-bottom prices. I was speaking to the owner of my local and they make about £1 on doing them, if not just breaking even. MOTs just aren't worth their time, but there's a constant stream of them. So it could be that they're inundated with loads of other MOT requests, yours might take longer than usual or be more hassle, and they'd rather deal with one of the more straightforward ones (and they can afford to turn you away).

Not justifying their attitude, but it could be an explanation.

Or, they've come to the conclusion that the fact it keeps reoccurring means it's a deeper issue that is beyond their ability to effective diagnose and repair, so you're better off in the long term getting it sorted by a specialist instead of constantly going back and getting the light reset time and again.

Here's a secret for you. Garages hate it when vehicles sail through an MOT, because there's no money in that. Garages live or die on upselling work.

For how long can you seriously expect one garage to keep turning a blind eye to the mattress, duct tape, wire ties, bin liners, hand tools and assorted smeared fluids in the back, though? That's what's not worth the hassle to them.
