I picked up my new car today :toot:

the steering is a bit lighter than what I'm used to but overall I like it, very quiet inside as well. Also dat 750km range :datass:

Almost double what I would get with the Lexus!

Glad you're happy with your new car. :toot:

My V40's engine have loose up a little as I've almost reached 10,000 miles on the clock now. The fuel economy have been increased as well so it's all good. :datass:

Soo , I'm pondering The idea of changing my car at some point over the next year.

I'm not sure whether to get another 5-6 year old one for 4-5k or to try it differently.

What experience have you all had with schemes and things? I have no idea how they work but I know a lot of people pay a monthly price and then they 'hire ' a newish car for a few years, and mot and repairs etc are covered. I've always been sceptical of things like this, but I think if done right it could actually be beneficial. Are most schemes like this done directly through the supplier?

They can be done through a supplier or a dealership. Depending on how you look at it :shifty:

There are many options open to you have when buying a car, but you have hit the nail on the head. Really all you need to work out is how much you want to spend and go from there.

1. You can buy 'cash' with money you have sitting around.
2. You can buy 'cash' with money loaned to you from the bank.
3. You can buy on finance direct with the dealership ( Hire Purchase - until the car is 10 years old)
- I.E. if you buy a car that was registered in 2010 you could only finance it for a maximum of 3 years.
4. You can buy on finance direct with the dealership ( Personal Contract Purchase - usually over 4 years max with a Guaranteed Minimum Future Value*)

or

5. You can hire a car through Contract Hire and Leasing. (pay the rental price over 4 years but you must hand the car back to the firm)

* the Guaranteed Minimum Future Value can be handled in three ways:
1. You pay the balloon payment and keep the car.
2. You hand the car back to the finance company without paying.
3. You use car as a part exchange towards your next car ( At the same time as paying off the existing finance - this only really works if your residual value is worth more than the outstanding finance.)

It is also worth noting that a lot of dealerships will offer "Just add fuel" or similar offers where the MoT, services & sometimes insurance are included over the term of a PCP.

My brakes are squeaking whenever I'm about to come to a complete stop
It's really annoying but my front brake pads aren't due for replacement until another 3.2k miles
Although when I got the rear pads done a few weeks ago they mentioned the front discs looks like they need changing also as they are beginning to curl up.

Thinking of going back to halliwell jones instead of a local garage but they want £349 to get front pads and discs changed :/

It doesnt matter if the mileage doesnt say they are due. Look at them, feel them. Is it a longer travel than it should be? Are they spongy? Do you normally brake hard? Do you ride the brakes?

Are they down to the metal?

Thanks!
They do seem responsive and not spongy.
I spoke to a garage just now outside work and he quoted me £290 so I might as well take it to bmw instead for £60 more.
I'll post a pic of the brakes later seems like it's wore in a kinda U shape

I am fully expecting the picture of the disks worn down to the vents.

All that braking at the last minute to cut in at the front of a queue takes it's toll.

Ha, beat me to it.

I hardly use my brakes, so they last way beyond their expected mileage.

I was going to suggest WD40, but you'd probably take it literally, and I don't want that on my conscience.

But it was a close call.

The offside pads will last another 2000-2500 miles judging from the amount of meat on them.. Can't see the nearside.

Offside Discs have quite the lip on them, probably get them changed soonish but you could get away with them for a teensy bit longer I'd say. Again hard to say on the nearside, but these things tend to wear evenly.

I was following a new Discovery on the way home tonight. Looks like it's had a strawberry floating stroke or something. What the hell were they thinking?

It's absolutely hideous. I hate how companies seem totally okay at the moment with designers designing stuff without thinking about legislation and then having to shoehorn things in. That strawberry floating number plate surround :dread:

The Legacy needed new brakes (known issue before I bought it), and also a replacement rear caliper.

£720 for new discs and pads all round, and the caliper.

Ouch. At least they shouldn't need doing again for a while.

My trusty 53-plate SEAT Arosa is circling the drain. Had to spend £300 just to get it through its MOT a couple of months ago, which was about 10 times what the car was worth.

Garage said it would fail A LOT of things on its next MOT and I'm not prepared (or able) to pay what it'll cost to get it through. The car just isn't worth anything anymore. It's only done about 54,000 miles but it's not in good condition, lots of dents and scrapes and the hinges on both doors are gone so when you open the door it just swings right open to the limit. Same with closing the doors, they just go all the way which often catches passengers out

Really not sure what to do about replacing it. I don't have a wad of cash to purchase something else and don't even think I'd want to actually own another car and take on all the running costs. Far more tempted with leasing to keep costs down and have a brand new car that'll just work and have lower tax. I literally just need a runaround that'll do the 5 miles round trip to work each day, that's pretty much all I use it for.

WHAT TO DO :?:
