What's the general consensus on hybrids? Is it worth going down that route?

"Pfft!" according to one of the salesman yesterday at Volvo garage. They said the hybrids are waste of time. Stick to petrol or diesel.

Well there you go then. Abandon eco friendly cars, the guy from the Volvo garage who wants to shift his existing stock says PFFT.

I think it comes with 5 year/100,000 mile cover as standard which you can extend every year up to 15 years by having an annual Toyota Electric Service. Can't remember the exact details. To be honest the salesman was a bit of bullshitter on other things so I probably need to check the exact T&Cs

I've been looking at Honda hybrids recently. Apparently it costs about £1000 to replace the battery if it ever needs it, so would think it'd be similar for Toyota. A hybrid makes more sense to me at the moment than a full electric.

I've read mixed reports on getting hybrids serviced and/or repaired though - it sounds like some normal garages can do it, but others can't or won't - so that might be something to factor in as well, or at least check with your regular garage if they work on hybrids.

I was driven in a mild hybrid Merc last year. A C-220, I think. Something like a 1.5-ish engine, boosted to around 200hp by a self-charging motor.

It was great. Really responsive. I'd definitely go down that route if the charging infrastructure hasn't improved by the time I'm buying another car (hoping the Legacy will give me at least another three years.)

We've decided to swap the little old automatic Honda Jazz we got a couple of months ago for a slightly newer Skoda Octavia because it's manual and that's better for me as I'm learning to drive. These are both cars that just float around the family based on who needs them since my Gran stopped driving and my parents got a new car. Will probably swap back to the Jazz when I've managed to get through the test.

Does anyone have any learning to drive tips because it is fairly terrifying. I shouldn't have left it until I was 35, I was far less aware of how precarious and precious life is when I was 17.

You're learning to drive in Newcastle? I avoid driving in Newcastle like the plague, and I've been driving for nearly 13 years.

I think it is still a bit too early for hybrid cars, but they are improving all the times and in five-ten years’ time it may be worth it to buy one. *shrugs*

Had a look around at Volvo garage yesterday and nothing was available that what I want. I am keen to get a V60 or an XC40 and still look at few other garages this weekend.

Just been told by the plumber, as he was leaving, that one of our cars was smelling strongly of petrol fumes. Just been outside and sniffed around. I definitely got a whiff of something but only for a moment. Got on my hands and knees and couldn't see or smell anything, smelled near the caps and couldn't smell anything. Got in my car and couldn't smell anything and it had a full tank.

I'll go out again in the morning and have another look around when I'm not hot and bothered but is there anything in particular I should be looking out for or checking? If there's a problem, I'll obviously just get insurance to deal with it but I honestly didn't see anything that would've alarmed me so I'm not convinced there's actually a problem.

That was for front brake pads, rear pads and discs, wheel alignment, air con pressure sensor and a rocker arm. It is a 07 plate 2.0T Avant that is just 7 miles shy of doing 100,000.
I've had it remapped, so has about 220bhp. Fantastic car, I fully intend to drive it into the ground.

Yeah, the only disaster I've had was a water pump failure. Other than that it has been bullet proof. Total Q car too. A4s are great.
That one you're looking at looks to be fully kitted, more or less. I'd be wary too of the number of owners, but generally they are rock solid.
As mentioned in the travel thread, I'm about to go on a 2500 mile road trip next week, fully loaded with camping gear, I'll still beat 90% of other cars in the toll booth drag races and I'm expecting to average about 40mpg. I know that the Audi will be the last thing I have to worry about.
