In all the strong wind yesterday my wheelie bin got absolutely launched across the driveway and into the side of my car, so now got two smal dents and a 2 inch scratch

Even worse is that I'm just waiting on a call from Kia that my new Sportage has come in and then I'd be trading this one in.

I think it's time to sell the MX-5



We've got 2 cars, my partner has a Seat Ibiza but she can't currently drive for medical reasons. Both cars are getting long in the tooth and with insurance going up also it just doesn't make sense to keep both. The MX-5 is just too impractical to be our only car.

I'm thinking sell the MX-5 privately (or potentially one of the car buying sites) and then trade in the Ibiza for something a bit more fun. I've been looking at the Octavia VRS or Focus ST.

I received a renewal insurance, and it has gone up again, even though I tried to compare with the other insurers.

Thankfully, the current I am with is the cheapest of all, yet it has increased about £140 from the last year price.

I saw the new Volvo EX30 today on the M6 and it was a well nice looking. Very sleek.

I was considering one of those (when I was briefly considering an electric car) until I saw that there is no display in front of the steering wheel, so everything including speed is shown on the central display. There are also no physical buttons for anything, I watched a video where the reviewer had to go through several separate screens in order to adjust the wing mirror

Ouch.

It's one of things that annoying me about no physical buttons and we have to navigate through on the main central display, but it is risky to look at it and drive at the same time.

It's similar to what mobile phones are. It doesn't make sense at all and I know most cars are very futuristic with technology, but I feel it is not safe.

I do find it an interesting distinction wherein you cant use your phone hardmounted to the centre console as the new cameras will pick it up and penalise you, but manufacturers are simultaneously moving all vehicle controls to a centre mounted ipad

Oh yeah I forgot about the cameras. In the Volvo video, the reviewer would have to keep looking at the central screen to check his speed/GPS route/anything and then the camera would repeatedly alert him that he wasn't looking at the road. Pathetic.

One thing for brakes to fail. That could happen to anyone. But for the car to not let you reduce power and roll to a stop? strawberry float that. I want to be in control of the damn thing, so I never even want a regular automatic.

Now Craig Phillips, winner of the first Big Brother, is saying the same thing happened to him earlier this year, in the same model of car.

"In the afternoon, I'd set off from home with my wife and kids in the back of the car. I'd barely gone a mile from home and as I came to traffic lights, travelling at about 30mph, three cars away from the lights I could not brake.
"I was pushing on the pedal, but the hydraulic felt like it was pushing my foot up. My whole body was locked up trying to push down on the brake."
He said fortunately the lights then changed from red as he could not have physically stopped.
"I immediately returned home really slowly. I didn't want to go above 10 to 15mph. I would not want anyone else to be in the same situation, particularly with children in the back."

He drove a mile back home with no brakes and his kids in the back of the car. Presumably when he got home, he was able to stop the car, so why did the dozy bastard risk driving back instead of stopping as soon as possible?!
