I've been watching and reading a lot about Japanese sports cars from the 80s and 90s lately.
I absolutely love the style of them (and old Japanese tech in general, really) the 80s ones in particular.

Does anyone know of any good websites/forums or YouTube channels etc that covers them? Or even any collections that can be visited?
Came dangerously close to buying an old MR2 the other day on a whim. :slol:

Good man! Over the years, I have owned:

- Mark 1 MR2
- Mark 1 MR2 Supercharged Tbar
- Mark 2 MR2 Tbar
- Nissan Skyline R33 GTS
- Nissan Skyline R33 GTR

Love me some Japanese sports cars and super reliable for the type of car they are (I subsequently owned a Cerbera which strongly backed this up)

Can't think of any specific websites beyond the usual culprits, Pistonheads, or owner Forums which are usually a really good source of info)

My mate had a MR2 tbar, it was really nice.
I used to have a gtfour too.

Love those era cars but I certainly don't miss trying to get parts or have someone not take the piss when doing work on it.

Sold my old car for a few hundred (it was in an awful state). Had to be towed away as wouldn't start anymore so assumed the guy was going to strip it for parts.

Judging by the letter I had through the post, seems the guy got it started but then got it seized by the police the very next day for driving without insurance, an MOT and tax :slol:

Nice, got any photos of the ones you've owned? Would love to see them.

I've seen a few forums and sites, hadn't really thought of owners forums though, so I'll take a look - thanks.

Indeed, I love it. Saw one the other day that sold for £25k, so my idea of owning one kinda went out the window then if that's the going rate. :slol:

I have found some more reasonably priced ones, but yeah part of me does wonder if they'd just be more trouble than they're worth. I'd probably be content with just staring at it and sitting in it, so it seems excessive to spend several grand just to do that. :slol:

Confirmed it was indeed the heat shield over the exhaust that was causing the intermittent rattle with the Civic, good news is the heat shield rattles no more!

The bad news? It fell off on the way home from work

Parking dilemma:

Like many people, I have a particular space in my work car park that I like to park in if I can. Recently, however, an Audi driver has been parking there - no problem in and of itself, first come first served and all that. However, this driver is actually parking across the line, taking up two spaces so their beloved penis extension/divorce spoils has room to breathe. I have noticed this on several occasions so it's not a single bad parking job or having to work around another's inconsiderate parking - and it's definitely the same car. Considering this is a hospital car park which patients need to park in as well, I'm not wrong to grass this nugget up am I?

Nope grass away. :datass:

Being an Audi driver is good enough reason to grass them up.

Also, if they've parked out of the way and done this, and there's room, I always make sure to park across the space next to them so they have the same space they'd have had if they'd just parked properly, hopefully sending them in to a rage and ruining their evening Pilates class.

Of course if they leave before you, you have this situation:

No space for that unfortunately, there's a wall on the other side of the space (that's why I like it!)

Grass them up! If it was a free public/supermarket one I’d be internally annoyed but not enough to grass them up but in a hospital car park where parking is at a premium (well it has been most times I’ve been visiting to a hospital) I wouldn't have an issue at least trying to get it sorted. Alternatively you could get a small car just for the purpose of annoying them, squeeze down the partially blocked off spot if there’s enough space for a small car, then the Audi driver will struggle to get back into their precious car due to you parking in a spot, this would actually annoy them far more than getting told to park properly.

Being an Audi driver is just too perfect too

The only mistake you've made here is doubting yourself.

If it was a one time thing, you could easily chalk it up to an error/bad parking job but if it's repeatedly being done, he/she is a twat. In a hospital car park too! I hope they step on lego.

Think my front tyres need replacing. The side tread is worn to near the legal limit however the centre tread is fine, I can still easily fit a pound coin into the centre treads and only see the silver part of the coin. However with the side tread I can't even fit the pound coin in. Annoying but I guess I need to ease off with my cornering.

Or get your tracking looked at? :dread: even with overly enthusiastic cornering tyres shouldn’t wear that unevenly.

Yes thanks! I'll tick that option when I get new tyres fitted.

Definitely sounds like it needs doing, ideal time when you get new tyres fitted too.

Think I may have got totally ripped off...I hate garages they are such rip off merchants.

Took my car to my local BMW dealership for an MOT and free health check. Turns out the brake pad sensors have snapped as they had come lose from the clips. Also the bleed nipple values on the callipers had missing rubber dust caps. I need these dust caps as they have an attachment on the caps to clip part of the brake pad sensors onto. Dealership said they couldn't source the dust caps which must cost pennies, and instead had to order some bigger part so they went and quoted me £206 for four bleed nipple dust caps. They must have been wanting to order new calipers or something just to get that part. (Anyway turns out they are £8.50 each, with the help of a YouTuber I found them in the BMW OEM catalogue)

Anyway I sourced the rubber caps off eBay which came with the metal bleed nipples too for a few quid and bought a front and rear brake pad wear sensor from carparts4less. Since its such a small job I decided to take it to a local garage to fit.

Wish I done it myself now :fp:

SO instead of just putting the rubber caps on the existing bleed nipples they went and unscrewed the original ones and fitted the new ones in before putting the dust cap on. Then fitted the front and rear wear sensors. They then charged me £86.40 including VAT for what must have been a 30minute job.

My local BMW dealership charge £66 inc. VAT for a rear brake pad sensor supplied (£25) and fitted, so labour must be around £40 for fitting one sensor at the dealership. Since I supplied the sensors in this case, it seems a small local garage does not give you a saving if they are going to charge me £86 inc. VAT for just labour? So thats £86 for fitting just two sensors and unscrewing and screwing 4 bleed nipples.

I didn't say anything at the time but feel I need to call them back and tell them they are extortionate and no better than the BMW dealership.
