I keep telling myself not to look at newer cars but I just can’t help but load up Auto Trader a few times a day  so much out there that I’d love to try though that I don’t think I could decide on one anyway!

Debadge?

And er.....enough :shifty: . I got £12k off the list price though due to Covid making them want to just shift units.

strawberry float me, whoever is running that dealership must be running it into the ground then. We haven't had to make such drastic price cuts. In fact, our sales are up year-on-year.

EDIT: Ahhh, it's Sytner. We're eating their lunch at the moment. We took over a bunch of VW dealerships from them earlier in the year.

Very nice car, but that illuminated logo in the sill is a bit up itself.

I have never bought a car brand new before, is gap insurance necessary? It is being bought outright, from what I can see it seems more necessary if you're buying on finance?

I wouldn't bother.

It probably depends on the car and the finance. If you're expecting there to be a decent difference between what the insurance will pay out (only market value, not what is owing on the finance) and the finance settlement figure.

You don't need to buy Gap insurance from the dealer though. You can get it way cheaper independently, just make sure you check the terms and conditions as the cheaper independent ones may have payout limits that won't cover everything.

To clarify, it isn't on finance, so it sounds like it isn't necessary?

Wait, so there's gap insurance that doesn't cover the whole 'gap', so you would need gap gap insurance?

Sorry  seriously though I’ve never even heard of it! What does it cover that fully comprehensive insurance doesn’t?

If it's not on finance then no you don't need Gap Insurance. Gap insurance is basically insurance for the shortfall between standard car insurance payout and your outstanding finance balance in the event of your car being written off.
Fully Comp insurance will only pay 'market value in the event of a write off, and if you owe more than that on finance they won't pay that extra.

That's not a growth wrote:Wait, so there's gap insurance that doesn't cover the whole 'gap', so you would need gap gap insurance?

Some Gap insurance has limitations on maximum payout, so if for example your Gap insurance has a maximum payout of £5,000 but your outstanding finance was £6,000 more than what your standard insurance pays out, the Gao insurance will only pay £5,000, leaving you to still cover the remaining £1,000. Some Gap insurance policies will also only cover cars up to a certain value. That's why some of them are cheaper than others.
You don't get insurance for that gap though, you just make sure your initial policy will cover a big enough shortfall.

You buy a £30,000.00 car.
Drive it for two years and its now worth £18,000.00.
Get into an accident and it is written off.

Your fully comp insurance payout will be £18k. If you took out gap insurance it would pay out at the £30k.

Cheers the the explanations of gap insurance, never bought a brand new car so never heard of it before, good to know if I do ever opt for a new one in the future (which is mightily tempting sometimes).
