people dont really talk about enthusiast cars in here these days but as may well keep going on as i have nowhere else to

peugeot dealer invited me in today to take a look at a 308 gti ps 270 they thought i might like so i went down and had a go

that car is way faster and nicer than it has any right to be and having already driven a regular 308 as a courtesy car i really like them inside - surprisingly i was very into the two tone paint too

the problem with all of this current generation of big fast hatches is that they are too capable - the performance is very easy to reach and you never feel the risk reward thing of being on the raggedy edge - going fast is cool but i wanna work for it a little bit, wanna have to make the car hustle by keeping the engine buzzing and the gears right and the wheels balanced but modern fast stuff is mainly point and go - i wanna feel like i could fall off and die at any moment and you dont get that in big hatches any more until you do die

blegh

also here is the data comparison 208, 308, sti

Never been in a proper hot hatch or performance car but that’s the impression get from a lot of reviews of said cars these days, that they’re far too capable and as a result not as fun as driving a slower car quickly as that feels more exciting to do.

Being a fan of smaller cars in general I’d probably lean to the 208, it’d be very impressive if it could get anywhere near it’s claimed MPG as well. Should really bite the bullet and go to look at some newer cars myself, Civic just goes on though.

I'm so old that whenever I look at a car now the first thing I do is check how nice the interior is.

Agreed. When we were choosing my partner's last car, she said "I don't mind what it is, as long as it is red with two cupholders"

any interior is an upgrade from the subaru and the peugeots are really very nice and well equipped

i am going to get the 208, its rarer, more chuckable and better to drive at the limit, feels more involved even if it is slower

thats how i know im old, im going for a slower car instead of my pattern of faster and faster - modern cars just dont do the feel of driving very well

and it'll be nice to reset the palette a bit and do something smaller for a while, might be able to do a few performance tweaks to it down the line as well, who knows

The 207 looks like it'll be cheaper to run and 1.6 with 205PS is plenty for all type of the British roads.

Yeah, it sounds good.

I miss my little Fiesta ST to be honest as it was a nippy and fast. The handling was sublime and drove like a dream.

Ah well... I've had a quick look round (websites) for my next car and it'll be either a hatchback, an estate or 4x4 for being practical and in future if I've got a child with my missus too.

Drove my car for the first time since getting a big service on it (oil change, new filters, new spark plugs, new brake fluid and fixed a coolant leak). Did the 245 mile trip down to London and I used like 60% of the usual fuel. Normally the same journey uses just over half a tank and now it was just under a 1/3 used

Someone crashed their S14 just up the road from me, trying to show off to people at a pub by the tiny roundabout. Clearly got a tankslapper and binned it into a bollard.

banana splits, just like every other banana split who speeds around here but god, why did it have to be a S14.

There was a Nissan Skyline parked up near my parents house when I was dropping off their shopping earlier. I've never actually seen one 'in the flesh' before.
A bit of Google Image searching I think it was a 2004 version.

I'm the same. That and how much stuff can I fit in the boot.

When I eventually do buy another car it is going to have to be a Skoda Superb Estate. Get a top of the range one and it pretty much drives itself too. Lane assist, park assist, adaptive cruise control.

Been away for a while; just had a catch-up of the last few pages or so.

Did some tinkering with the car over lockdown. I had a persistent brake squeak that I tried to fix. I knew one of the calipers was sticky, but I didn't realise how bad it was. New pads and discs did nothing, and then a couple weeks ago one corner started overheating. Long story short, I found a place to put new pistons in the two rear calipers for me. Whole job cost £230 including parts and including installation of new front droplinks, which is a stone-cold bargain.

Guy said the sticky caliper was totally strawberry floated, so I'm glad I paid an adult to do that for me.

Also, did some polishing and refurbed my headlights. The old girl still looks good for 14 years old.

That's looking really good for 14 years old. It's not a Legacy is it? My Civic is 16 years old now, low mileage though, but it is starting to look a little worn in places. Rust appearing on the rear wheel arches. :dread:

Yeah, it's a Japanese Spec.B Legacy. It's in pretty good condition for its age.

The problems I've had with it have made me fall out of love with it a bit, but I'm looking forward to my drive home tonight :toot:

You realise if it kills him on the way home you're going down for manslaughter.
