Think I may have got totally ripped off...I hate garages they are such rip off merchants.
Took my car to my local BMW dealership for an MOT and free health check. Turns out the brake pad sensors have snapped as they had come lose from the clips. Also the bleed nipple values on the callipers had missing rubber dust caps. I need these dust caps as they have an attachment on the caps to clip part of the brake pad sensors onto. Dealership said they couldn't source the dust caps which must cost pennies, and instead had to order some bigger part so they went and quoted me £206 for four bleed nipple dust caps. They must have been wanting to order new calipers or something just to get that part. (Anyway turns out they are £8.50 each, with the help of a YouTuber I found them in the BMW OEM catalogue)
Anyway I sourced the rubber caps off eBay which came with the metal bleed nipples too for a few quid and bought a front and rear brake pad wear sensor from carparts4less. Since its such a small job I decided to take it to a local garage to fit.
Wish I done it myself now
SO instead of just putting the rubber caps on the existing bleed nipples they went and unscrewed the original ones and fitted the new ones in before putting the dust cap on. Then fitted the front and rear wear sensors. They then charged me £86.40 including VAT for what must have been a 30minute job.
My local BMW dealership charge £66 inc. VAT for a rear brake pad sensor supplied (£25) and fitted, so labour must be around £40 for fitting one sensor at the dealership. Since I supplied the sensors in this case, it seems a small local garage does not give you a saving if they are going to charge me £86 inc. VAT for just labour? So thats £86 for fitting just two sensors and unscrewing and screwing 4 bleed nipples.
I didn't say anything at the time but feel I need to call them back and tell them they are extortionate and no better than the BMW dealership.
