Last nights episode - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TV8EMWJO or watch it on youtube:-

2.37m, ratings went up again last night.

Pretty good episode, Jedward slowly destroying their public image, Bobby giving a few people a piece of his mind and the Sally/Pam power struggle. The tensions are rising.

Why where they laughing at Pam when she asked if she had been photographed playing baseball? I only saw some of the show but I couldn't work out why it was so funny... :?

No-ones 100% sure. Could be due to her ditzy reputation in the house so her missing that the 1st picture was of her during the baseball game. It was mentioned earlier in the programme about her butting into conversations and making it about her. I was confused as well.

Just watched it again here (I've put the timing to where it starts):-

Something to do with the way she moved her leg?

Monkey Man wrote:The opening night was Ch5's biggest ratings ever.

It was if you read the Daily Star. The reality is Channel 5 garnered a bigger audience for England vs Poland back in 1999, & also for Independence Day, also in 1999. It becomes Number 1 if you start creating its own niche for it to become number 1, such as "The highest rated daily episodic, non sport or movie-première television programme on Channel 5 in history!"

And while the opening night ratings were impressive, it's still the 2nd lowest opening Big Brother rating of all time. It's better to start at a higher rating & then drop off, rather than what's happening to Big Brother at the moment which is starting at less & still dropping off. The ratings average is going to end up in the low 2's.

The average of how many people are tuning out, even if it is consistent with the past, is an irrelevance if the overall viewing audience as a whole has fallen.

Well it has, it's gone from 5 down to 2. I'd rather be starting out at a 7 & going down to a 5. But then this is Channel 5, so you can get away with crappy ratings because everything else on Channel 5 is even worse. Just as if the show moved to ITV2, you could maybe knock another million off the current figure. However ratings only tell half the story. What are advertisers spending in that slot, how much did C5 pay for it? Based on how much they've forked out, are the ratings good enough? If the plan was to revive interest in Big Brother, this has to be classed as a failure because the rating seems to be heading in the same direction that got it cancelled in the first place (& which C5 & Sky initially said they had absolutely no interest in). Is airing Big Brother costing them in excess of what they'd normally be getting if they stuck on an NCIS or CSI re-run or a cheap film?

Apologies I thought I read it was 5m for the England game, was actually 5.6m. Best figures in a decade then. I don't believe the Daily Star but they were sort of right in a Sony Spin type of way, the opening night got 8m in Reach figures (the amount of people tuning in at least once, if only for a minute).

Can't really agree with your 2nd/3rd paragraph, it was expected on a smaller channel and the drop-off has been consistent with previous BBs. I expected a million less than the current figures and apparently industry experts were on Radio 5 last night saying that they were "amazed" at the ratings.

Probably not the best idea to put a big down arrow in your original post below a set of figures which had actually just risen and have again risen since then.

Anyway I'm bored of Ratings talk, Ch5 must be delighted with the figures so no danger of cancelation so I'm more interested in content of the actual programs.

If the ratings stay at what they are, 2.3 or so, this will be in line with what Channel 5 usually pull for their top tier programming (football, films, CSI, NCIS & The Mentalist). However, if I have NCIS sitting there, which is costing pittance & garnering me 2 million viewers, or Big Brother, which is costing a fortune & also giving me 2 million viewers, I'd rather have NCIS. If reports are to be believed, BB cost C5 something like £200 million, which is a mind boggling amount of money.

Watched this last night and wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I think it shows that whilst big name celebs may attract viewers initially it is actually the interaction between whoever is in there that makes the show...this looked promising and I will probably watch again tonight.

Shopping task result:-

Toto and the Munchkins (Paddy, Jedward and Tara) have unfortunately failed their part of the task

The Dorothys failed their task because Kerry stepped off the yellow brick road to have a cigarette at the start of the task

However having met four out of the six requirements, the housemates have passed the task.

Did I just watch Bobby collect his own sweat in a can and then give it to Mr Paparazzi guy to drink (without him knowing it was sweat). :|

What an actual banana split.

And Big Brother didn't stop him from doing this? :?

I honestly think they should kick the banana split out for doing that. If he had done that to me and I found out afterwards I would stomp all over his head.

"Feels bad". He's only telling him because without him knowing it doesn't have any effect on him (until he comes out and finds out). What a banana split. Tin Man nees to strawberry float him up.
