Yeah this is brilliant!

I've been watching lots of YouTube videos about speed running recently and have started watching a few about Celeste and it's genuinely incredible to watch what people have been able to achieve in this game. Absolutely blitzing through sections that destroyed me when I played it!

As that twitter thread from a while back shows, the mechanics of this are just so, so well put together that it really does raise the skill ceiling to the point where people are able to do some truly insane things. You can definitely see why the game has taken the speed running community by storm!

EDIT: This video is a great one for showing just how well the game is designed in terms of speedrunning:

Just started playing this thanks to the epic games giveaway whenever that was and have just got to Chapter 3. I'm playing it on my laptops keyboard which has taken me some getting used to but i'm getting there.

Found a big diamond looking heart at in Chapter 2 that I had no idea how to get which was frustrating. Glad i'm not being chased by those clones in chapter 2 anymore though, bloody pain in the arse that was.

I believe you have to get it earlier in the level than the point you saw it

Ah probably. I saw it right at the end so that may be why.

Just finished Chapter 6 and accidentally discovered that I can long jump. I wonder how long that was an option before I did it for the first time? Is that in the game from right at the start?

One of the things that makes Celeste so great is that it has these advanced techniques that are in the game and yet most people won't discover them until the game introduces them in a level - and what makes it even better is how some of the advanced techniques are held back until the post-game challenges and even the DLC. The skill ceiling in Celeste is very high despite the apparently simple mechanics which also make it so accessible.

Basically, don't feel bad at all about just discovering a mechanic! You weren't intended to find it earlier, even though you could have done. And rest assured there are more in there too that you could pull off right now if you knew how ;)

I just got now finished a fantastic mod for Celeste called Glyph. If you've got the PC version, have beaten C-sides and/or Farewell, and are itching for some very well made and extremely challenging new levels for the game then I highly recommend it. There are a few fresh ideas in there and they're all really well executed.

Trailer:

(make sure you download everything in the Requirements section, as well as the mod itself)

That looks great! - But my Celeste is Switch Celeste :(

Also that bit at around :30 has an arrow block with an ice (?) edge, and I never did quite understand/get the feel for those :? :( . The bit with a few of those in a row is my worst aprt of Farewell.

The support for both speedrunning and accessibility has been fantastic, it's really impressive

I hadn't read much before into the change to EXOK games and their next project, that's very exciting too!

I spent a lot of time on the original PICO-8 Celeste so I'll be very interested in trying this!

Started this today. Balan is a hard act to follow so let's see if this is up to the same standard :capnscotty:

Cleared the first level, found a hidden tape and got 11 strawberries. Currently being chased by some people haired woman.

Seems good so far.

Remember this is a game from a pre-Balan age, it wasn't developed with the benefit of knowing just how great platform games could be if done right like that game was!

But seriously, this game is strawberry floating fantastic so you're in for a treat
