That's some of the best gaming merch I've seen, especially the white T-shirt!

As I said in the Switch thread there is also a limited run games physical release on January 1st, although I am pretty sour on them for how quickly games get sold out and bought up by scalpers.

Yeah I bought a t-shirt and print when I should be buying presents for other people.

Thanks for that  :x

The hoodie is really cool - the zipper is a strawberry! The t-shirt came with a sticker of the same design too (while the Hollow Knight tee came with a different but related Hollow Knight sticker)

Guacamelee 2 spoilers

This was basically a Celeste screen

(There is a straight up winged strawberry from celeste elsewhere in the game so they definitely played it)

The state of that er, fire exit light?

But seriously, cool gear. The stuff I as interested in was sold out. (Strawberry tee and pin, I think.)

:D but also: :dread:

'Very hard'?

I'd love to see some statistics as to how many people had done B-Sides and C-Sides etc. Because as I neared finishing the latter I genuinely considered whether or not it would be specifically and personally acknowledged by the team somehow, it was so grueling (fun-grueling, mind).

Like how the Queen sends you a letter if you hit 100.

The main game was hard enough for me, I'll just watch videos on YouTube and shudder slightly.

I wonder what the next project will look like? They have gone from Towerfall to Celeste both 2D platformer games somwonder if they will continue that route or try another genre

If all the Game of the Year awards haven't convinced you, check out some gameplay videos of Madeline in action. If it doesn't appeal immediately, then best skipped. If you're up for a super rewarding challenge, you won't find many better.

Awards don't sway me. Been burnt too many times that way.

I do like the look of Celeste though. I'm kind of going through a period of wanting to play platform/Metroidvania type games at the moment.

Have you played Super Meat Boy? That's the same sub-genre Celeste falls into. It exceeds it and is the best in the genre in my opinion and is easily recommended.

There is a physical version to preorder on Limited Run Games here. I'm very glad they are doing it this way so stock isn't limited and sold out immediately (although it was already with the collector's edition yesterday)

I missed out on the Collector's edition yesterday and was sad - but happy to pre-order the physical anyway (though for me Switch is a digital console really, I just fancy the souvenir of my time with the game).

Also: appears to be more of those scarves on that site compared to the merch site - so I was happily surprised and ordered that too!

Also: Celeste is akin to Meat Boy in its bite-sized challenge screens, but also has other styles such as the environmental detective work of finding the strawberries and so on. So I think it's probably a hybrid of Meat Boy style and more traditional exploratory platformers.

No, but I can see that they're very similar in execution. I've popped Celeste on the wish list for now.

I must admit to never having been slightly interested in Super Meat Boy, mostly due to its aesthetic and challenge level. While Celeste is still hard, it's hard with a 'you got this' message; and the aesthetic is completely different, to fit the sweet plot. So don't automatically assume that if SMB rubbed you up the wrong way, you won't enjoy Celeste.

Yeah I never had any real affinity for Super Meat Boy, as you say the aesthetic is unappealing and the game feels pitched against the player, as opposed to Celeste that is continually supporting the player. There are differences in game design too, with Celeste feeling more like a traditional platformer in some ways, but the similarities in gameplay are clear to see. If you disliked the fact you died all the time in Super Meat Boy and had to keep practicing specific screens, then that's probably going to carry over to Celeste
