Do you know if the randomizer considers the lantern a necessity for dark rooms (so it would be possible to access the lantern without having to blindly traverse a single dark room), or can the lantern, for example, be gotten for beating Eastern Palace or after/in some other dark rooms?

It considers the Lantern necessary for navigating dark rooms. So at no point will you have to navigate in the dark to complete the run.

It will give you a light source for the initial escape from Hyrule Castle with Zelda, but that is the only time.

So in order to complete Easter Palace and climb Death Mountain (Without the flute) you need the Lantern.

Thanks, good to know.
I did somehow manage to complete the two dark rooms on the right side of Eastern through a combination of blind (hah!) luck and knowledge from watching a few randomizer playthroughs. Not sure I want to try that for the rest of it.

Started going through the new SMB3 seed last night. This one is definitely going to be a longer run than the first unless I've missed something
