It does, but I stupidly opted for the "l33t Civ player right here watch out" option, rather buggering myself  :fp:

I'm going to start a brand new game this evening and take my time with it.

So I've put in a good few hours into a brand new game (playing as the USA, who are apparently quite vanilla and well suited to beginners) and so far I've got to grips with it all, except combat.

I had the Persians declare war on me in a surprise attack and proceeded to get my arse handed to me, only managing to stave off annihilation by spending lots of gold instant-building more powerful military units (catapults FTW :toot: ) and brokering a peace deal. Nearly bankrupted my empire :x

I've now decided that defence is the best form of defence and have got military units massed on all my borders ready to repel any invaders, and more in reserve. Is the military side of things always that difficult? I had considered attacking a nearby city-state that sided with the Persians (Jerusalem, oh the irony) but didn't want to be seen as a warmonger, plus they seem to have heavy defences and I don't think I understand the war mechanics well enough to wipe them out. Any hints?

Just as an aside - the game plays really well on Switch, controls are intuitive and it looks great. Have only been playing in handheld mode but I imagine it'd be good fun on a big TV too.

I come from Canada, and they think I'm slow, eh.

Tundra dominance, and late game culture bombs make Canada look a bit OP. I guess global warming might cause loss of tundra tiles post industrial era.

Loving this on switch but it’s taking a lot of reading to understand it. I love reading about politics so enjoying that side of the game, but I’ve clearly set my first civ up sub-optimally as I have two wee shitty cities and the rest of the. Civilisations have sprawling empires!

You'll spend the first couple of (hundred) games of any Civ doing just that.

I've been playing Civ games for going on 27 years and I often end up with only a few cities...at least until I decide I need more space and go on a war of domination and end up with an empire that spans the globe.

£38.99 for the Switch version at Argos, must admit I'm very tempted to get it.

No puns, only hype...

I'm really looking forward to some of these features. There's a lot in there to disrupt the flow of the game, which is really what I feel 6 needs, as once a flow gets going and civs are established, there's usually very little that feels like it's changing, rather than just advancing through time.

I still worry that it won't cover up for the biggest issue, though, that being the AI, and it's single minded pursuit of preset agendas.

Tomorrow

Just been reading up on it and the more I read, the better it sounds.

Potential disappointment with the World Congress system aside, there appears to be a significant amount of additional content, some of which sounds as though it will completely alter the gameplay.
