Maybe, but worrying about it and doing something about it are separate things aren't they.

Nobody is like "I won't go on a foreign holiday or stop buying plastic gooseberry fool I don't need or eat less meat because it'll be good for the planet"

And nobody respects that kind of behaviour or encourages it.

I live fairly frugally, I don't go on holiday very often, and I even choose meat alternatives sometimes - yet the climate keeps getting worse. I'm surprised and sad, because everyone keeps telling me climate change is my fault, but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to fix it. Could you explain that for me?

Shhh, Fade's right, literally nobody has ever suggested, respected or encouraged people to take less flights, use less plastic or cutdown on meat. Nope, it's never ever happened.

I didn't say that. I said it's not respected or encouraged.

But go ahead, carry on building your straw man, have fun

You can't tell me most people look up to vegan hippy types, they actively get made fun of.

Weird, maybe somebody else wrote this?

As for "vegan hippy types" (not all vegans are hippies and not all hippies are vegans btw!) getting made fun of, it's usually their self righteous condescending attitude that gets mocked. And "most people" don't mock them.

Climate change worries me enormously. I feel the collective focus and effort it would take to bring about meaningful change gives me little hope that we can fix this.

On a personal level, I haven’t flown since 2007, I now cycle to work where I drive an electric vehicle, my garden is all natural green with no concrete or plastic grass and I have a bee hotel hanging on my tree. I also turn off the tap while I brush my teeth.

I know I can do more. I drink lots of water but my preference is sparkling so lots of plastic bottles instead of refills and a meal isn’t complete unless it has at least one animal in it and I always flush the toilet before I do any sit down life admin even if the coast is apparently clear as it buys me around 15-20 seconds of loud time while the cistern fills up

Your username kind of gives that away. ;)

Don't beat yourself up over the little things you still do. You've cut out flights and cycle to work! That's more than a lot of people will ever bother to do.

I also love fizzy water, but I got a Sodastream a few years back. And it's bloody brilliant.

Just don't try to make fizzy milk. It was not good.
And it exploded out unexpectedly and made a milky mess all over my shiny gadget.

Are they actually worth it? I saw they do a subscription thing now for the gas and that and was wondering if it is anyway economical as I love fizzy water but don't want to buy plastic bottles etc.

I think it works out to around 40p per 1ltr. Or did last time I did the sums anyway.
I usually take my empty canister to Argos and they take the old one away at the same time.

We already have a very large fusion reactor that can supply us with more than enough energy, and we have mature technology to harvest it, but we're still in this crisis so I'm not convinced fusion reactors are the answer.

(I'm talking about the sun and solar panels.)

Unfortunately as promising as fusion is it's too far in the future to pin any climate saving hopes on, we'll need to have fixed things before fusion becomes practical.

When he said "check it out", he didn't mean actually check it out. He meant "accept what I say without questioning it, and be outraged, because that's exactly what I did"

The sun is 6 billion years old, we need something new and ultra shiny for the times.
I can't run my PS9 off puny solar power!!

Call me odd but I'm a little dubious about the accuracy of temperature records from more than 100 years ago.

All we can do is look at what's happening now and the earth is clearly warming and at a significant rate in more recent years. Maybe the earth has been significantly hotter in the past and I'm sure soil conditions, ice coverage show this but does that mean I shouldn't be bothered by it now. There weren't 8 billion people on the earth then fighting for resources that clearly become more scarce in higher temperatures and more erratic weather.

Our homo heidelbergensis ancestors must be spinning in their graves at how we've snowflaked up the place with our homo sapiens wokery. Notice how Climate Change and Cuckold Con all start with the same letters? No, I didn't think you'd spot that, sheep .

I think scientists have a number of clever methods for estimating temperature going back hundreds of thousands of years. The key things now are 1. its changing faster 2. because of us and 3. it'll drastically change our way of life

As the replies have pointed out, the chart he used cuts off at 1885. Why would that be?
