So this seems like the year that climate change has finally started to undeniably have a massive impact on the day to day life of millions of people
There's been wildfires, massive droughts, rivers and water sources drying up that have never dried up before and I expect we can probably expect extreme rain and flooding in a few months.
I live near a river that has always had 2-3 feet of water flowing down it, and it now down to probably about 2 inches. It's horribly depressing, and it seems logical that things are only going to get worse, especially since nobody is even attempting to change their behaviour.
I know large companies have a lot to be blamed for, but I also think personal responsibility goes a long way.
For example we don't foster a culture that values sustainability or frugalness, they're simply not desirable traits. Most people don't think about the sustainability of their purchases when buying something because they're not made to, not in a monetary sense or a societal one.
Even with the knowledge that what they're doing is harming the planet, most people still do nothing. It feels like at this point there's no real answer, capitalism and social norms will just keep destroying the planet until it becomes too expensive to make money off of people but by that point it will probably be too late.
The only thing that's changed in my short lifetime is paper strawberry floating straws
Oh also apparently there's cancer causing chemicals in all of our rain water now? So that's fun if true.
