So this seems like the year that climate change has finally started to undeniably have a massive impact on the day to day life of millions of people

There's been wildfires, massive droughts, rivers and water sources drying up that have never dried up before and I expect we can probably expect extreme rain and flooding in a few months.

I live near a river that has always had 2-3 feet of water flowing down it, and it now down to probably about 2 inches. It's horribly depressing, and it seems logical that things are only going to get worse, especially since nobody is even attempting to change their behaviour.

I know large companies have a lot to be blamed for, but I also think personal responsibility goes a long way.

For example we don't foster a culture that values sustainability or frugalness, they're simply not desirable traits. Most people don't think about the sustainability of their purchases when buying something because they're not made to, not in a monetary sense or a societal one.

Even with the knowledge that what they're doing is harming the planet, most people still do nothing. It feels like at this point there's no real answer, capitalism and social norms will just keep destroying the planet until it becomes too expensive to make money off of people but by that point it will probably be too late.

The only thing that's changed in my short lifetime is paper strawberry floating straws

Oh also apparently there's cancer causing chemicals in all of our rain water now? So that's fun if true.

All a hoax init, it's actually because musk has secretly installed a magnifying glass between earth and the sun, but if we all buy Tesla's and Dogecoin he will move it.

Oh great, a climate change thread. It's like being back in 2011.

Unlike you sheeple, mindlessly swallowing NASA propaganda, I get my analysis from a Blogspot page I found on Facebook.

I look forward to Luton house prices going through the roof as it becomes a beach front town.
It'll be like a better version of Dubai.

I promise you that almost everyone on this forum is just as worried and angry about climate change as you are.

Take solace in the fact that as a reactionary species although we have already irreversibly begun a mass extinction, we might still do enough for our capitalist civilisation that caused it to avoid complete collapse.

Maybe, but worrying about it and doing something about it are separate things aren't they.

Nobody is like "I won't go on a foreign holiday or stop buying plastic gooseberry fool I don't need or eat less meat because it'll be good for the planet"

And nobody respects that kind of behaviour or encourages it.

I mean unless we can create a weather machine, I can't see that happening.

Weather is going to get more and more extreme and crops harder and harder to grow reliably. We're gonna end up eating slop out of a can like in the matrix :dread:

Huel is gonna take over the world

I live fairly frugally, I don't go on holiday very often, and I even choose meat alternatives sometimes - yet the climate keeps getting worse. I'm surprised and sad, because everyone keeps telling me climate change is my fault, but there doesn't seem to be anything I can do to fix it. Could you explain that for me?

Shhh, Fade's right, literally nobody has ever suggested, respected or encouraged people to take less flights, use less plastic or cutdown on meat. Nope, it's never ever happened.

Could I do more, maybe, but I'm not going to live in a cave and eat roots.

Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Everyone needs to do more but no one is going do everything they can and that is fine as long as everyone is trying.

I could do more than I do and over time I am, but I'm not going to snap change everything, I now try and by as little.plastic as I can, reuse and refill as much as possible. I still eat meat but it's considerably less than I did so that's a step I guess that over time will grow.

Ultimately my choice make very very very very little difference. Unless you live in the arse end of no where living off only things you grow you interact with companies that take the piss and in many cases cause more co2 than some countries.

I can help where I can but realistically people individually can do very little and governments need to make companies not take the piss.

Of course will be where I will be called an arse hole for not living in a cave, not using power and eating roots.

It's so weird Moggy, because I've really tried! I don't use plastic straws and I do my recycling every week. I use public transport exclusively. I thought this would help, but the temperatures keep getting worse and worse!

I know this is crazy, but sometimes I even think, what if it's not me? Could there be other people out there causing all these problems on purpose? Some kind of person - a "class" of them if you will - who are deliberately using far, far more resources than everyone else?

Nah it's just you mate. The rest of us all get together and talk about what a monster you are.

I remember at the last meeting, one of the Koch brothers (not the dead one) stood up and said horrible things about how selfish you are.

I didn't say that. I said it's not respected or encouraged.

But go ahead, carry on building your straw man, have fun

You can't tell me most people look up to vegan hippy types, they actively get made fun of.
