Already hit 50. Single, out of work and was awake last night worrying about money and the future. No idea what I'm gonna do next but I need to get back out there.

Then again, I still play videogames and so I'm winning at life :toot: .

Oh, and Barnsy, hang in there, dude - I hope things start looking up for you.

I don't play games anywhere near as much as I'd like to partly due to lack of time from looking after baby man but also because when I do get the time, I'm just so exhausted I end up just chucking Netflix on or something.

I'm going to try and push myself this year because my backlog is ever growing....

My Dad had me playing games from the age of about two and a half. He was around 32 at the time and I'm glad he did because I've loved them ever since. :toot: (I'm not 35 for another 4 years though so sorry for replying to the thread). What scares me is I'm older now than my Dad was when he had me and I'm nowhere near a position to have kids

I'm not a parent myself, Qikz, but I'd hazard a guess that most folk probably think that they're not ready to have kids; your dad probably felt the same! There's no guidebook as such and you just do what you think is best :-).

It's interesting that many folk now start playing games as quite young children. I didn't get into gaming until I was nearly 14; previous to that, gaming systems such as the Atari 2600 (and, more so, the games) were just too expensive. Thankfully the micro computer scene allowed gaming to become more accessible.

Same. I'll be 35 this year . I didn't properly get into gaming until 2019. 2019 was my worst year, a load of life events happened in quick succession; lost both parents (one to suicide), broke up with my long term girlfriend, lost my home, lost the job I love when the company went into administration and went to work for a toxic one and some other horrific gooseberry fool I won't go into here.

I struggle with depression and anxiety mainly due to work these days. Gaming is probably when my heart feels most at peace - its the mix of enjoyment, control, escapism, dopemean hit from positive feedback loops and relaxation but mixed with concentration and immersion you can't get with other media forms.

I love gaming and have a healthy relationship with it. I'm not addicted, it doesn't impede on my responsibilities and has only had a positive impact on my mental health and I enjoy the social side of it with multiplayer Switch games etc. I don't intend on giving it up anytime soon, but feel guilty for having a hobby that isn't productive (which is a mad mindset). If I'm honest I do view it as immature hobby, or at least know it preceived that way by non-gamers. But whatever

Sorry to hear this man, be strong

As for gaming being an immature hobbies, I think this always used to be the case in the 90’s and early 2000’s but its not really these days and lots of people use it as a way to put all their problems behind them to get lost in another world just to take their minds off things. I have heard stories of people using gaming as a way to tackle depression and it working.

I remember being in my 20’s and I used to hide from the fact I used to play video games because you use to get the piss taken out of you. Every relationship I got into I barely mentioned I played games because I was embarrassed.
It’s a shock that so many people who used to take the piss now game themselves! Even those who do it on their phone and still hide the fact that it’s still a sort of gaming.

I just turned 35 last week. I live with my partner and our 2 year old son. I get, maybe, 2 hours of time to myself each day right now so I’m fighting a losing battle with my backlog.

I do find I often get frustrated at not being able to spend a little more time gaming, particularly when the releases just keep piling up, and I’m more anxious about wasting my free time than anything else. Even if I’m playing something, if there’s even just one bit that’s boring or annoying me I’m quickly switching to something else that I’d enjoy more in that moment. It’s a nightmare, just pinging from game to game to game trying to find something that grabs and compels me to the point that I just want to see more and more of it.

I think I just need to accept that my days of playing games for up to 8 hours a day are done start letting stuff go. I don’t have to play every critically acclaimed game going. It’s ok to just… not. I’ll be starting this with Pokémon Legends. I’m sure it’s very good but, no thanks I don’t have the space in my life for it.

It's tough when gaming is also competing with television, movies, family time etc. My gaming time comes after the wife has gone to bed, which is normally around 21:30.

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

I'm in my 40s and barely game anymore. I barely bought anything for the PS4 and can't see myself getting a PS5 or Xbox any time soon. I'm currently playing Ghost of Tsushima - Iki Island. Aside from that, I tend to play retro games and replay old games. It's not like I don't have the time for gaming, just not the inclination any more.

A friend of mine keeps trying to persuade my to get a gaming laptop and a Steam account, she seems to think it might re-spark my passion for gaming but it seems like a big risk for something that might not pay off. Every no and then I think about setting up a tablet with some emulators to scratch that retro gaming itch. It would also mean I could sell my retro collection and get some cash

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread

I think I’m the oldest here which is not cool! :dread:

35. Just! Just me, my wife and an assortment of pets.

My wife doesn't generally watch much TV, so the fact that I am hogging the TV at night in the living room isn't an issue. When I had a separate TV upstairs she would generally come up and watch unless she was specifically watching a film or something downstairs. I wear open-backed headphones so I can hear her clear as day, and it means the game noises don't annoy her.

The amount of time I play each week is generally related to what 'phase' I'm in. I'll go through periods where I game a lot, and periods where I'll instead be focused on the guitar and so gaming is on the back-burner. For some reason I can never balance it - it's all or nothing for each hobby. It's always been the case regardless of what the hobby is at the time.

Right now life is pretty stressful, so gaming is my escape in the evenings. It definitely helps me with stress. Out with chores and things then I'm on most nights for a few hours. My wife has a bit of an erratic work schedule, so it works.

No injuries to speak of. Unless you count bruised pride as I slowly become aware that I'm not as good at Halo as I one was.

As we both game a lot, most of our spare time is spent collectivley playing games. Sometimes a co-op game like Lego or Minecraft, sometimes a solo game but playing together like the witness.

I get about an hour and a half before j start work to play too.

Evenings I might play some racing games, and if I'm not gaming I'm usually recording music.

I'm 50 :dread:

I have a lot of time since my career went south and I'm working out what to do with my life.

Gaming time seems to ebb and flow - currently playing a lot of Dragon Quest XI, but I can go for ages without playing much at all. I think I usually spend more time lurking here than gaming these days.

I'm doing better these days thankos.

Gaming is mainstream these days, between being able to read infinite books, TV subscription services, internet we're kind of in the golden age of just hanging out. I love the world that gaming has opened up to me and prefer engaging with games more than passively watching something and appreciate the downtime and distraction plus they've had a noticeable positive effect on my mental health. Its also very nice to see gaming has helped other people here in regards to stress etc. I perhaps view gaming as immature and have some shame and guilt around the pastime because I wasn't really into them as a kid and didn't properly get into them until later in life. I talk openly about other hobbies with friends but gaming not so much.

37, no health issues from gaming, eye still still perfect, no carpal tunnel or anything. My eldest is 5, my youngest is 3, we play Disneyland Adventures or Mario Kart from time to time, my wife isnt a gamer though so she tries to limit how much gaming the kids do. Im not pushing them to play games much, I want them to get into it their own way but they both know and love Mario so Im doing sometsihng right!
