I'm hoping they make it more about survival and real people. I don't want any ninja commandos, crack shot snipers or bad ass brawlers. Ordinary people who run and hide and escape barely. Walking dead lost all tension when you realise the core group always win improbable situations. I prefer the episodes that focus on scavenging, interacting with other survivors but not "threatening" or toughing them out. Rik and co always out muscle whoever they meet. A weak central character who is afraid and has to talk his way out of situations or isn't necessrily the hero. A flaws character who puts self preservation ahead of "doing the right thing" would be more interesting to watch. If they just make rik 2.0 what's the point.

Fear the Walking Dead casts Orange is the New Black actress in mystery role
Fear the Walking Dead is adding another series regular: Orange is the New Black actress Elizabeth Rodriguez has joined the Walking Dead companion series, EW has learned exclusively.
The actress plays Daya’s mother Aleida Diaz on the Netflix series and had an arc on NBC’s Grimm last year as Agent Chavez. In Fear the Walking Dead, she’s been cast in a mysterious role that sources are keeping quiet about. But given the timing of the casting, it’s safe to assume Rodriguez joins the show after the first episode, since the pilot has already been shot.

Mercedes Mason Joins AMC’s ‘Fear The Walking Dead’
Mercedes Mason (666 Park Avenue) is set as new regular on AMC’s upcoming The Walking Dead companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, which has a two-season pickup. I hear Ruben Blades is in talks to play her father.

AMC’S “FEAR THE WALKING DEAD” BEGINS PRODUCTION IN VANCOUVER
Network Releases Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Video from the Set of the Pilot
Series Debuts Late Summer on AMC
NEW YORK – May 11, 2015 – AMC announced today the start of production on its highly anticipated new series, “Fear the Walking Dead,” in Vancouver. Additional filming will also take place in Los Angeles at a later date.
A companion series to “The Walking Dead,” the #1 show on television among adults 18-49, “Fear the Walking Dead” is executive produced by Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, Greg Nicotero, David Alpert and showrunner David Erickson and produced by AMC Studios. Co-Executive Producer Adam Davidson, who directed the pilot, is also directing the second and third episodes. The series’ first season, consisting of six one-hour episodes, will premiere on AMC in late summer.
Also today, AMC.com released an exclusive new behind-the-scenes video from the filming of the pilot episode.
“‘Fear the Walking Dead’ takes us back to the earlier, more dangerous, more terrifying days of ‘The Walking Dead,’” said Kirkman. “A time when danger was lurking around every corner and the thing mostly likely to get you killed was your own ignorance of the rapidly changing world around you. The stakes are going to be higher and the ride more intense. We're going to show people all the insanity of civilization crumbling that Rick Grimes slept through. Buckle up."
“I could not be more thrilled to be continuing on this apocalyptic journey, dramatizing the horrific disintegration of society through the lens of a dysfunctional family. We've assembled a stellar cast and crew to tell our story -- it's going to be a great ride,” said Erickson.
“Fear the Walking Dead,” which is set in Los Angeles and focuses on new characters and storylines, stars Kim Dickens (Gone Girl, “Sons of Anarchy”) as Madison, Cliff Curtis (“Missing,” “Gang Related”) as Travis, Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) as Nick and Alycia Debnam-Carey (Into the Storm) as Alicia. Also joining the cast as series regulars are Elizabeth Rodriguez (“Orange is the New Black”) as Liza and Mercedes Mason (Quarantine 2: Terminal) as Ofelia.
AMC Global, the international AMC-branded television network, will air “Fear the Walking Dead” within 24 hours of the U.S. premiere. AMC Global launched in late 2014 and is available in over 115 countries and territories throughout Latin America, Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Vancouver, eh? Will we see this building?
Or should we just expect a strawberry float ton of forest scenes?

New cast addition -
Ruben Blades has closed a deal for a series regular role on AMC’s upcoming The Walking Dead companion series, Fear The Walking Dead, which has a two-season pickup. Blades will play Daniel, the father of Mercedes Mason’s character.
Updated cast list with a couple of new cast additions which haven't been posted but I got off IMDB plus many characters names have changed -
Kim Dickens as Madison Tomkins. A thirtysomething single mom to two kids, Nancy looks like the girl next door, but there’s an edge to her. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0225332/
Frank Dillane as her son Nick Tompkins. Nancy’s screwed up teenage son. He’s too old to stay home, too scared to flee. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0226817/
Alycia Debnam Carey as her daughter Alicia Tompkins. Nancy’s mostly level-headed teenage daughter. Her ambition is in direct proportion to her older brother’s failures. She loves her mom but it’s time to get out of Dodge. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1486317/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1
TBA - This role may have been filled by Elizabeth Rodriguez above. Andrea Chapman. A somewhat wilted flower child, fortysomething Andrea — yep, another Andrea! — has retreated to the outskirts of the city to recover after a horrible marriage.
