Oi nerds! Can't believe none of you watched it! I have to admit, the Star Trek fanboy in me was going into overdrive when Shatner was telling Bezos how his simulator doesn't capture the experience.

I'd give this launch 7/10 though. Without the theme tune and none of the great quotes, it didn't quite feel like Star Trek.

Wrong.

Rich actor gets free ride from rich man to ride private rocket for rich people.

I know many will disagree with me, but I really think the space tourism sector which is in it's infancy is hugely important to us as a race. The reason we haven't been back to the moon for nearly fifty years is that back then, the American government provided virtually unlimited resources to achieve the goal and this has not been repeated since and likely never will. If we are to become a space faring race, making a profitable business out of it is essential. So let the billionaires have their play things as in the long run, the benefits to mankind will be significant.

To give one example, Helium-3 is extremely rare on Earth but has potential as a green (nuclear) fuel. There is an abundance of it on the Moon. Interesting article below actually states that there is already mining contracts in place for this resource. Like it or not, the Moon will be mined in our life time. The space tourism thing which you see unfolding now is nothing more than a revenue stream for an industry which will see incredible growth in the years to come.

I can't really add or disagree with SillySprouts post. It was really interesting seeing Shatner telling Bezos that every person on earth needs to experience space flight. I hope that in my lifetime a trip into near space will be as cheap as a flight to Spain but I can't hold my breath on that.

Shatner isn't exactly a pillar of humanity, but I really did like how he didn't go completely corporate and told Bezos how he saw death in space and that his simulator was crap!

I guess we need to wait for the Amazon/Bezos in flight footage appears, but honestly if I was 98 years old and my grandson got to go into space, I think I'd be pretty happy as long as I was still alive.

Less likely to see that in our lifetime than humans living on Mars.

I watched it CRD. Stumbled into it from about T-50 and couldn't draw myself away. Amazing engineering! Captain Kirk looked pretty apprehensive before hand but once he'd landed it was a joy to hear his emotional ramblings!! He was so over whelmed with it all.

Reminded me of of when I was a nipper and was allowed to stay up and watch the Appollo launches and the moon landings - yes I'm that old!!

Yep I would love to.

If I win the lottery, I would pay a flight ticket to the space.

You'll need more than the lottery. As far as I could see it's £43 million, (approx!), a ticket...
