I saw the ISS, but I couldn't see the Dragon though.

We weren't supposed to be able to see the first part at all, so didn't try, yet there's photos of the first stage taken from not far from here :x

Still, from my garden I don't think we'd have seen it as the road goes up in that direction meaning the house further up look quite large ove the horizon. We get a great ISS view though as West is behind the garden and as it passes over to the east we can watch it go over the garage which is nice and low, so you can see across to the Severn estuary way.

The Space X launch was great to watch! The space suits were sleak. It's clear that the aim is to make the whole thing look cool, from the suits, the touch screens, the reusable rockets landing - everything is so sci fi! Very impressed.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

It comes from a novel by Iain Banks.

I watched a load of the coverage on Saturday, it was pretty cool to have it on in the background while I was doing stuff in the kitchen.

Just a heads up as you may not be aware, but another starlink cluster is being launched tonight, and last time you could see the rocket go over the UK :datass:

The lack of a link is distressing.

Just saw it's been postponed until tomorrow :(

This account is great for updates:

The one that want over a month or so ago was really cool. It wasn't dark, but you could see what looked like a low long star go right over head. I'd imagine with good binoculars you could make out a rocket (I'll have mine for viewing this time).

When you start to grasp the insane immensity of anything beyond our star system you realise why we haven't encountered any sign of aliens. In the small number of worlds within the local cluster where there would be life only a fraction of those would have a technologically adapt species and probably an even smaller number of those even make it to the point where they could even attempt travelling to their closest neighbour stars; and even that would be incredibly difficult.

There's also the question of how long civilisation lasts for and how extensive it gets before something happens to it. I have no doubt that advanced and even spacefaring civilisations have existed before, possibly in this galaxy, but the universe is 13 billion years old so it's unlikely that we're contemporous with any nearby ones, as the likelyhood is that those that exist currently (and there 100% are others) are quite far away.

Supposed to be a good view of the Neowise comet over the next couple of weeks and right now in particular.

Look north towards the Lynx constellation.

Too much cloud cover by me at the moment :(.
