Oh this is so right. But vast quantities of the comic fanbase don't really want diversity. How many people go into the comic shop and will buy anything with an X on the cover. I can think of a fiar few I know in my shop alone. Same with the titles headlined as the Avengers - the title Justice League Dark makes me want to but you can understand as if this was deemed Shadowpact or something similar it would probably drop 5,000 units. Depressing but true.

I try out everything that Vertigo put out as they have been consistently trying interesting things, but it depresses me that not everyone does try things out. It's great to see Image, Boom et.al trying to put out good diverse comics - but a large number of comic-folk don't give a damn. The fact is 'Batman' outsells 'Detective Comics' irrelevant of the quality of each title as some folk only buy based on the title (and I'm not talking about people buying their first comic at the newsagent I'm talking about people that should know the difference).

The fact that people will buy comics of certain characters irrelevant of whose writing it - really? You are part of the problem. Some of my favourite comics right now are on characters who initially I would have no time for - buying two Punisher titles a month being a prime example of this.

Back to the whole Marvel vs. DC - on average I would say that Marvel has the better roster of talent - Brubaker, Rucka, Hickman, Aaron and now Wood are all top-tier in my book - I just wish they'd embrace more off-kilter titles, where I find a lot of enjoyment. DC on the other hand have IMO a weaker roster of talent and appear to have talent-relation problems (so many of the above list worked for DC first and then went and signed exclusives at Marvel - shows you are doing something wrong) - but DC have allowed smaller titles to flourish and if they are allowed to take credit for the Vertigo universe as well, then that's the reason, month-on-month I find myself buying more DC.

Sadly though the amount of titles coming out of Vertigo seems to have decreased dramatically and established series like DMZ and Northlanders and Scalped are past their halfway points and on the home stretch. What is there to take over? What happened to Vertigo Crime?

This and the fact Constantine and Swamp Thing are now in the mainstream DCU doesn't bode well at all.

This is true. Pissing off Wood so he went over the fence doesn't bode well. I still read Sweet Tooth, Fables, Unwritten, Scalped & American Vampire (for my money the best 'new' Vertigo title - also DMZ I read in trades). I'd really like 'em to have more titles waiting in the wings and part of me hopes that the success of the new 52 leads to Vertigo expanding their line.

Wow marvel are really going to town axing it's fringe titles. Ghost Rider and Black Panther now, how many is that now? X-23 was cancelled the other day and it's possible more could go.

Just read the synopsis of the last year or two of Spider-Man stories. Looks to me like they're building back to the original status-quo with Peter and Mary-Jane, which completely nulls the point of Brand New Day, surely?

Most definitely. Ultimate Spider-Man was designed to be completely accessible to new readers and Ultimate Collection 1 contains the very first two volumes of Ultimate Spider-Man. I convinced Cosmo to buy it and he loved it, bought the next two Ultimate Collections not long after.

Having read a fair few, ahem....8, of the of the New 52 issue 1's, who is this person in the Red cloak that seems to appear in each comic in a panel?

She's apparently going to feature in Justice League at some point. She appeared in Flashpoint and was the cause of the new universe.

I read Identity Crisis during the week. Even though it was an event that didn't threaten to destroy the universe/multiverse it still managed to be more affecting than the likes of Final Crisis or Blackest Night. Does Meltzer do any work still for DC or is he another they have lost?

Seems not everything wolverine related is untouchable at marvel, now Daken: Dark Wolverine has joined X-23 and has been cancelled. Shame, I much preferred what I read of the new run to Wolverine new numbering.

Apparently Generation Hope, Avengers Academy, Thunderbolts, and X-Factor all have lower sales than X-23 (which has been the highest selling cancellation so far) but of course they'll all probably stay purely because of their links to the Avengers and X-Men cash cows.

Apparently the reason AA wasn't cancelled was because Laurie is joing them - so combining two and keeping one of the title names

Whilst many people didn't like it, I really enjoyed and really like the Daken character

I've been buying Thunderbolts comics since issue 3 and have every single issue of X-Factor to date - I'd really hate to see them drop (especially as I boycotted Marvel last time they cancelled X-Factor)

Well guess who else marvel are bringing back from the "dead"
