Tempted to bid on your Justice League books.... Is that Justice League a self contained book? I won't need to read multiple other books to enjoy those 3 would I?

Those trades he's got there contain all the issues you need. Volume 3 is an Aquaman crossover story but it contains the Aquaman issues as well, you'll be fine.

I originally thought I owned all the issues in that trade but I double checked and I don't. At this point, buying them separately will cost more than the actual trade.

I finished reading the current run of Deadly Class, and really enjoyed it. The art was amazing, the story was engaging, a nice range of characters, with a lot of room for it to go places. Just a shame there's no more until September after only 6 issues. Big thanks to Winckle for recommending it.

Anyone got any recommendations for other non-superhero comics? I know that's the bulk of what people follow in here, but i just don't get on with most of them.

I'm still enjoying a lot of the Batman stuff, but even those are full of bits that irritate me every now and again, like crossovers with characters from other more fantastical comics like Superman, or the constant inclusion of characters that I can't stand, like Robin, and Nightwing. I thought the New 52 stuff was supposed to be a fresh start for new readers to hop on at, but I bought and read the first collected edition of new Batman, the Court of Owls one, and it's got Dick Grayson in there, with no explanation as to who he is or why he's in Batman's inner circle, along with Robin, and someone else. I'm still not entirely sure why Dick Grayson/Nightwing exist, really, and I'd assumed New 52 would have begun with just Bats and then gone on to introduce/reintroduce these other characters.

Finished Stephbat Volume 3 earlier. It totally did not make me cry. Especially not Steph remembering what she saw while on Black Mercy.

There is this page in the first issue which introduces all the former robins.

DC presumably took the view that Batman was one of the few characters who didn't need to fully reboot as most people are familiar with Batman and his supporting cast as opposed to Wonder Woman or Flash say.

Non-cape stuff:

American Vampire
Saga
Fables
Fatale
Gotham Central- Technically it is a Batman book but Batman barely features. It's a police procedural.

I've been periodically buying the deluxe trades off Speedy Hen and I like it. It feels substantially less noiry than Wolf Among Us and the Snow/Bigby relationship is notably colder at the beginning but I'm going to keep buying it. It obviously goes into more detail about the world and the universe's rules than the game does.

That's the page that annoyed me. Why is Bruce Wayne/Batman, super secretive vigilante, surrounded by three teenagers who all have high level clearance to the Bat cave? The only real exposure I've had to robin in the Batman universe is from the terribad Adam West series, and I sort of assumed that was pretty far from cannon.

Will I be safe if I just stick to the old detective comics series? Are they the ones just about batman being batman and solving crime? Not unveiling some soap opera tier family drama with the orphans he's taken in?

I'll look into the other recommendations, although I'll swerve any more of Saga. I read the first couple of issues, and didn't like that either. Space fantasy rubbish, fauns and fairies with guns in outer space. Good grief.

I was enjoying 30 days of night, but the second volume has been so much weaker than the first. Much more of an action, vampire hunter piece, than the horror of the first.

It's really good early but it gets the feel that it should be ending already after a while, Willingham mainly manages to keep his aggresive(ly stupid) politics out of the book which is a huge plus. The fabletown politics is significantly more interesting than the big bits of action and drama

Crazy good batman and a few image comics sales on comixology.

Picked up East of West, Sex Criminals, Snyder's Batman upto #20, Morrison's issues of Batman, Snyder's Detective Comics :datass:

I think for the time being to catch up on some current series I'm gona use my dad's tablet and just pick up the following:

Original Sin
Future's End
Batman Eternal
Batman
Avengers
New Avengers
Uncanny Avengers

Those are the books I'm really missing atm. How I've avoided spoilers for anything past #3 of Original Sin I don't know.

The Adam West TV show is a fairly accurate reflection of what the comics were like at that time. 60s yo.

The theory is that Detective Comics should involve more detection but in reality it's mostly just another Batman book. Having said that, one my favourite Batman stories in ages was a Detective comics arc which did feature more detective work than normal. Although as half the book is Commissioner Gordon and the other half is Dick Grayson with no appearances from Bruce at all, if you don't like the Bat family Black Mirror possibly isn't for you.

Saw on Bleeding Cool's SDCC rumour checklist that they have Aaron and Gillen on Star Wars books. Makes sense for Aaron as he's only on Thor after Original Sin, and I guess Star Wars is what Gillen was talking about when he mentioned his next work being a "dream" or whatever.

Bought Arkham Asylum and Batman Vol.1: The Court of Owls for £1.99 each in the Comixology sale. Is The Black Mirror any good? Do I need to know any backstory to that one or have read anything? Bear in mind I pay almost zero attention to DC comics.

I read Dark Mirror yesterday, it was pretty good. Bruce Wayne isn't in it at all, he's off doing something so Dick Grayson is filling in as Batman. That's all you need to know really. There's some references to the Killing Joke as well.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

There's a pretty big callback to Year One but you can read Black Mirror by itself it's pretty self-contained.

Black Mirror is great. The question now is whether Zero Year is even better, it's close.
