PostCommand & Conquer Remastered Collection (Steam/Origin) | Launches 5th June 2020
by Super Dragon 64 » Mon Mar 16, 2020 12:05 pm

Last week, the launch date and the latest details for Command & Conquer Remastered Collection were released. The full news post is at the link just below and I've added the launch trailer video and a few screenshots. In summary, the game models have been redesigned to make them suitable for 4K resolutions, the FMVs and soundtrack have been remastered and a number of bonus features have been added to the games.

The full package will include Command and Conquer as well as Red Alert and all of their expansions. This comes at the low price of £17.99 but there's also a big box Special Edition and an even bigger box 25th Anniversary Edition. These physical versions are made in co-operation with Limited Run Games - you can pre-order them now but pre-orders close on 10th April 2020 at 11:59pm Eastern Time. I've never ordered from them before but it sounds like this will be the only manufacturing run for them so order now if you're interested.

The originals are so bad though. This really needed to include Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun.

Yeah, I’m not sure I want to pay to play them again just because they look nicer. I had a great time playing the originals but I always remember wishing that you could do more in the games. Having played games like RA2 since where you could do so much more I feel I would just get bored too quickly.

They are very "of their time", but they're still decent enough.

Was playing a bit of C&C the other week there and it's still fun, even without a lot of the QOL additions the sequels added.

I have the original special edition of Command and Conquer, and I was briefly tempted by the fancy editions above.

Then I remembered physical games in 2020 are daft. Phew. Avoided those intrusive thoughts.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I bought the 17 game collection the other month. I've just finished a replay of Tiberian Dawn and I'm playing through Red Alert again. It's still amazing, and the story is oddly prescient with media manipulation, fake news etc. Yes, some things are missing in terms of advanced unit selection options etc (not that I can actually remember what got added to TS and RA2 because I haven't played them in yonks), but that's like moaning that a record player doesn't have track selection. Not being able to select Orcas in flight is the only real chore, but just make them a team and you can still select them. The most annoying part is hitting Windows instead of Alt when you're trying to run over infantry and accidentally crashing the game

I can't justify this, mainly because I'm playing the games right now! The only thing I really want it for is online Tiberian Dawn, because I could never get a game to work back in the day. I know I'm going to pick this up in a sale in a couple of years and the servers will be dead

The work that looks to have gone into this makes me interested in picking it up (even though I have the collection on Origin) so I may grab it when it releases or a bit later when I know that I'll sit down to play it. The new interfaces have me intrigued so I'm keen to learn more about them.
