Tafdolphin wrote:True dat about Abed. His and Troy's relationship has gone from BFF to hetero-life partners to weird co-dependent fantasy. It says a lot that Jeff was hardly in this ep, or the last for that matter. He's certainly not the best character but he was always the audience proxy: we saw the weirdness and antics through his eyes. When you take that out you get eps like this that are so desperate to show how clever they are that they lose coherance and humour somewhere along the way.

Hugo's right though, the claymation Xmas ep is the best of the entire show.

Nah, not enough laughs.

Xmas special wasn't the best or the very worst ep. I liked it a lot but I don't think it's at either of the extremes

I am not. It was a genuinely amazing ep.

I liked the claymation episode a lot mote second time round.

Didn't think much of this weeks at all again really. I shan't repeat what everyone ha said though as I share those same opinions. Really struggling to care about Watching this at all now which is a shame. I used to really like abed and troy but it's just too weird now and too stupid whilst trying to be clever.

Good to have Parks back though

I've watched every episode of community except the claymation one which I ended up skipping because I found it so cringe worthy. Every other episode I've either liked or really enjoyed . When watching the claymation one it doesn't feel like an episode of community at all, despite having the voices. I feels like they are sat in a room reading from a script. Also the whole theme for the episode is terrible. Ofc course many will strongly disagree, but I think it's one of those episodes where you'll either love it or hate it, and I hated it immediately. I hope they don't do it again.

Interesting fact: the claymation ep was written by Starburns.

I have to say, I was not a huge fan of this episode. It was too weird, and too over the top. Basically what Hexx said.

As far as the Christmas and trampoline episodes go, the former is probably the least enjoyable episode of the show for me, whereas I liked the trampoline one.

Been watching a load of series 1 eps today and it's made me quite sad. The Britta/Jeff relationship has yet to be bettered and without the need to try and constantly one-up itself the jokes are more frequent and land far more often. It really is one of the best sitcom series of recent times which is more than can be said for series 3 unfortunately.

It's Jeff isn't it?

I think what someone said about him being the equilibrium of the group and representing the viewer to some extent is spot on. Without him to countermeasure a lot of what else is going on in recent episodes it's all over the place.

I don't know what they've done to him but he just doesn't seem to fit that role anymore and it's to the shows detriment.

The "show" is just getting arrogant, by which I mean the writers are. The cast are still doing great with the material (not that I think this season has been anywhere close to bad).

That was me. I'm awesome.

You can definitely see the impression that Modern Warfare and Remedial Chaos Theory have left on the show. The writers seem to be constantly trying to come up with weirder and wackier formats that are much harder to pull off than the relatively tame episodes. Don't get me wrong when they work, as with the two mentioned here, they work incredibly well. But when they don't, you get eps like this week's which was self indulgent to the point of incoherence.

The most consistent eps this season have been the "normal" ones like the foosball episode and the Biology diorama episode. More of those please.

Yeah, that sort of turned Troy and Abed from adorkable BFFs to freakishly disconcerting manchilds

Abed has become too self aware, his personality has changed quite a bit from the first season. Doesn't seem the same character as the one who made the film about his mum and dad. Troy's pretty much the same.

They seem to have dumbed Troy down a lot. I felt that he used to just be a bit simple from time to time, but in the newer episodes he seems a lot stupider.

I watched a season 1 episode earlier on today and I noticed how much better Chang used to be, aswell. He was crazy, but quite serious in his madness which gave him an unsettling edge whilst still being hilarious. Now he's become a bit of a retard and they've made him too zany.

I'm still enjoying this season, but I echo the sentiments from the people who think season 1 (especially the second half) and season 2 are the best.

Both true. Also I don't understand why they've brought Jim Rash onto the "main" cast - and therefore have to have him in every episode - despite most of the episodes not even being centred in the damn college any more.

Listen to the commentary on the first season, they strawberry floating love Jim Rash, wouldn't be surprised if they increased his role even more.
