If i continue to enjoy this as much as i have the first 5 hours or so, i may go back to play the rest of this trilogy (if i can do it with Phoenix Wright then i can do it with Tomb Raider, dammit).

First TR isn't 4K but it's really good and Rise of the TR is excellent.

Thanks, might add them to the list....

The definitive edition of this launches today, owners of the base game should be able to buy an upgrade pack to enable access (upgrade pack replaces the current season pass)

I picked this up for £15 recently but been holding off playing it until this released. I’ll see how much the upgrade pack is and get that before I start playing.

Yes, just checked this. I assumed the extra stuff would just be a bit of cosmetic nonsense, but it seems like we get three actual proper pieces of content too. Nice bonus.

I really enjoyed the first 2 games (beat the first one twice and would like to go back and replay RotTR at some point)

They are solid action/adventure games, defo get to them when you get a chance.

I have the first two from previous sales but I haven’t played them at all. I’ll get to it one day.

This is such an odd game.

There's really not a good mix of combat/exploration - it's pretty much all the later.

I can buy perks to recover arrows from bodies (so many resources so uneeded) or to Batman rope enemies from trees stealthily - but so far (about 8 hours/40% in) there's been absolutely no need to. I can think of maybe 1 situation where I could do the later. And I can only think of a handful of encounters anyway.

It's a beautiful game but the "mix" just feels way off

Yeah, I’m struggling with it. It’s stunning. But it’s got some odd fetch quests and the climbing etc is very basic, more so than back in the day.

There have been a couple of good fights so far. But not many. They maybe took any criticisms of the 1st game too far the other way.

I found it to be the weakest entry in the trilogy. Very pretty, but the story didn't click with me. I also thought it was a bit too 'Temple of Doom' with the sudden change in tone. I did very much appreciate the accessibility settings though. In other words, it wasn't a straight easy/medium/hard - you could adjust the difficulty of different aspects of the gameplay.

The sheer number of upgrades and the general layout of the upgrade screen was poor compared to the previous entries too.

It wasn't bad, it was just a bit of a slog.

I was happily 100% areas but then I looked at achievements (which look a right bum ache and ill-calibrated with like...4 combat encounters in the game).

Given perks seem fairly pointless too might just push main quest

Anyone mind if I chunter on about my first playthrough of TR 2013 in here? Might be better than resurrecting the ancient thread, but I'll move it if people want. This is what I wrote in Bought/Played/Completed:

Just found the geezer who sounds like Sean Bean and he's sent me up the mountain to the radio tower. The QTEs in this game are strawberry floating stupid. Firstly, on PC they don't always say which button you're supposed to press so you don't know if it's E or F. Secondly - who the strawberry float thought needing to press one button to initiate a stealth kill and then mash another to finish it was a good idea? In terms of gameplay it's...okay I suppose. Seems a bit derivative thus far. To be honest every TR game I've played since TR1 has been a disappointment to me because they took the lonely, atmospheric, liminal masterpiece that was the original and thought "do you know what would make this game stand out in a crowd? GOONS!" Then suddenly you have a middle-tier shootemup with square platforms and squarer tits. I glanced at a walkthrough to check my progress and saw mentions of temples to be explored. I hope they are what I'm after, because at the moment I want everyone on the island to die as I'm sick of their tropey VG character drama.

I forgot to mention the completely gratuitous Indy Fridge bit in the opening section where she's impaled on a bit of metal. Utterly inconsequential to the story - she could've just landed on the ground. But I'm now running around an island as a woman who should've died from a lacerated kidney two hours ago. Having said that, I was enjoying the game a lot more today. I'm up to the crashed plane part. I was having fun examining items for clues until she found an old mortar and pestle and pronounced it "Pess-tull" - what the actual strawberry float...

So it's fair to say I had my issues with it at first! I really am having fun with it now though. Just unlocked the Commando Rifle and the third bow. I'm a little bit disappointed that when she briefly had possession of two pistols she immediately gave one to Sam(?), as a dual wielding mode would've been a brilliant nod to the originals. The shotgun is a bit underpowered at the moment to be honest but in general the weapons are nicely balanced.

I really like the secret tombs, they're some of my favourite bits to be honest. It's nice to go from the island survival action paranoia to something quite secluded and meditative (basically a bit like the first game which is one of my all-time favourite gaming vibes).

The QTE sections are still stupid. I was quite grossed out when Lara got her neck impaled on a bit of driftwood during the river section, but then I saw it so many more times I might now be a serial killer.

The QTEs were the most tedious part of the first one, but I think they got rid of them in 'Rise'. At least as far as I remember.

I think it was a very enjoyable trilogy on the whole since I'm a sucker for some pseudo-stealth gameplay. I much preferred the first two on the whole though. I completed both of those multiple times, but with the third I almost gave up 3/4 of the way through as I just wasn't enjoying it.

Camilla was a good casting choice on the whole, but my god the character was portrayed as exceptionally whiney and morally messed up at times. I can't remember if it was the second or third game, but there was a section she was complaining about the suffering of the native people, or evil people destroying things, or something like that. Then in the next breath she is going on strawberry floating rampage blowing things up left, right and centre

Excellent gameplay, passable stories.
