I really need some help with doing something that I thought would be so simple, we have some Kittens and I want to make some pedigree certificates, it needs to be five across but across two then four then eight and then sixteen, I have taken photo of an example of what I want to create, I can’t seem to find any template or any way of making a chart like that, that I can edit and add text, I don’t have any paid for software just the standard Apple Pages, Microsoft etc if anyone could help I would really appreciate it as it’s driving me crazy not being able to do something that I thought would be so easy

I hope someone can help :capnscotty:

So a bit like a family tree, but sideways and in table form?

If I needed to do that my first port of call would be Excel -you can merge cells and create borders, then export it to Word for titling and formatting. Alternatively maybe try looking for a knockout tournament template, you could try and switch that round so you get more teams on each row instead of fewer.

In Pages, insert a table. There are various templates with different shading etc.

Then use the little tags at the bottom-left/top-right to set how many rows and columns you want.

Finally, drag over the cells that you need to merge together, and a Merge option should appear.

(On iPad, that is.)

You’ll probably need to find some clip art to add the naff Union Flag.

The table should be simple enough but getting the union flag in the corner might be a bit more difficult ;)

If rinks' suggestion doesn't work for whatever reason, maybe let us know what you're trying to do this on i.e. are you on a laptop or an ipad or what. If it were me I'd use LibreOffice Calc which is essentially a free version of Excel :)

EDIT: rinks beat me to the flag joke :x

We're Brits, OR.

It doesn't matter who was there first.

It's yours now.

I am on the iPad at the moment but I will give LibreOffice a go in the morning on the MacBook, I have tried Pages but I can’t get it to work, I can make a table but I can’t add text or get rid of some of the shading, I have tried searching for templates with no success, it’s 2019 I would have thought I would have something that could create a table :( it’s so annoying, why can’t I just open Pages, get a blank page and add straight lines where I want and then text.

Edit - making some progress

That’s it. The formatting menu (paintbrush in top-right corner) allows you to adjust cell shading, text, and loads of other things.

 I figured that out it just took me a while, how can I add text to parts of the page that are not the table? (above and below)

Edit - figured that out you have to go to add and text is a option in the section that I thought just contained clip art type icons

Capitalists shouldn't ask for free help, you should pay rinks. £50 would seem a fair consultancy charge.

I would personally do this in Excel the export as needed. I find the formatting and software as a whole much nicer to use for this kind of thing. As Dowbocop said, you can merge cells to create the row counts that you want.

Not sure if it is the case with cats but with dogs pedigree certificates are an actual "thing" - they are something that is issued by the Kennel Club and offer an actual degree of authenticity of the pedigree of the animal in question, they aren't just something you make up yourself!

:loll: first thing I noticed

It's a formal document to be proud of and represents authencity and accountability, comic sans makes it looks like a nursery merit certificate.

I'd also use excel for this because it's totally free form.

You don't make lots of money by worrying about petty white collar crime.

Are you selling a cat richard?

Or presenting your own information?

Just don't make up a society of some sort as that's probably fraud.

As said above, forging pedigree certificates is fraud and will land you in hot water.

And I don't think you want PC plod looking in to your operation.

As if I’d take bourgeois money.

Then just insist the money is laundered through a team of homeless people first.
