With the reveal of the new console generation not far away I wondered what form you all want it to take?

I must admit my first choice would be this

But I realise I may be a tad old and that may not be fashionable these days because kids are all stupid.

I also have a soft spot for both the Xbox 360

and the Gamecube in silver.

So, what do you hope the next gen consoles will look like or are we now just going to get the dull boxes of the PS4 and Xbox?

I love the original PS4 design so much I don't want them to tinker too much with it. I'd like something like the bottom half reflected on the top half, though that would kinda resemble an X from the side.

As for the Xbox, the original was close to looking classy but ended up looking cheap, 360 was a better effort, One was just generic and dull. I'd like them to do something with some kind of X shape to it, an iconic design.

I want a top-loading disc tray and wood paneling.

Also the original PS4 is way better looking than the 360 (and definitely not a box) so you crazy

I'm still waiting for an eXistenZ-style amniotic sac that I can plug into my spine. Perhaps the PS5 will deliver.

The Switch is a really nice design. Very modern, looks like high-end tech, but still noticeably fun particularly if you get a coloured version.

Of the classic consoles, I like both the NES and the Famicom (which were very different designs!) for different reasons. The Famicom is unashamedly weird, with the side slots for the controllers and the big red buttons. The NES just has a really solid retrofuturistic look, with the stark lines and sharp edges.

The Switch is my favourite of the current console designs - fun, robust and surprisingly sleek in booth look and feel.

I'm not too fussed by either the PS4 or One design wise, although the PS4 is clearly superior - a more compact design that actually has a bit of character to it. I can't see either Sony or MS going for anything radically different from this gen in all honesty - black cuboids all the way.

When it comes to handhelds the Vita is pretty hard to beat.
It was powerful for its time, had a good screen with the only downside being the storage solution.

I am rather interested in the idea of the Switch Pro though and if they do make it a decent upgrade (which I feel shouldn't be all that hard as the tech is available) I'm going to jump in.

Would anyone want a version of the LCD screen that was seen on the One X devkit?

Designs are getting more boring as gens go by, but I understand since it's more about practicality. Won't be shocked to see both next gen systems to be similar black boxes again. I can see MS making a statement with something pretty different tho.

It's a sexy look but god no to keep the price of the console down.

What would a screen display?

Always though this was cool at the time, but seems a bit pointless in hindsight...

I'm not that sure myself.
Like you I thought it would be a nice thing to have to display maybe the download status while in sleep mode or something like that but yes, most of the time it's pretty useless.
It could even be an e-ink display to cut down on power usage.

I like simple, boxy - but sleek - designs best.

The Wii looked totally lush in its vertical stand mode and probably remains my favourite.

To this day it still blows my mind how they went from the relatively HUGE PS2, to this. And it's so sleek and cool. I adore it.
