Can you believe it? Can the glory of the summers of 2004-2009 truly be recaptured? Can the joyful story of two very nice boys and their adventures in video gaming still resonate in this new world of video content, whatever that is?
Consolevania was a videogame comedy show from Glasgow, Scotland, freely distributed, back when the internet was still young. Seriously, it was like the Wild West back then. It was magic. The show was strange, dreamy, full of joy, and the soundtrack to many a childhood. The show had many viewers - and some say that it influenced a generation of videogame content-producers, whatever they are.
But should Consolevania return? Should the Black Box be re-opened?
Well, we certainly think so - and that's why Rab and Ryan have come together again in an attempt to make the best Consolevania episodes yet. If you loved Consolevania in the past, you're going to love this. Seriously, but. There's no point doing Consolevania again if we're not trying to make it even better than before. So that's what we're trying. And we believe we can do it, too! Because Rab now believes he's some kind of amazing director and Ryan is convinced he's the best editor on the planet. And Gerry? Well, we'll get to him.
But hey! It's a big commitment! Episodes of Consolevania aren't like TV shows, with their "formats" and their "structure" and their "making sense". Episodes of Consolevania aren't like YouTube videos, with their "handsome presenters" and "smooth skin" and "really loud voices".
Episodes of Consolevania are like short films, torn straight from the human heart, and kicked into a computer's face.
This time round, it's Rab and Ryan and big Gerry McLaughlin (if he's lucky enough to be unlocked as a stretch goal), taking time off actual work to try to make the best videogame show ever made. A small three-person team, chasing a dream all over again. And so if we can get a few quid in the door to keep our children alive, and our houses erect, and our botox injections topped up - then we can definitely provide the best entertainment ever. We're hopefully not asking too much. We're trying to be realistic. We need to buy games and stuff anaw. Bus fares and that. You know how it is.
So - you have a choice! You can choose not to back us, cross your fingers that enough other people do, and wait until the episodes inevitably sneak out onto the internet in some form or other like we're a new HBO series or something.
OR, you can get involved properly! Back us up, become part of the family, get access to the episodes the minute they arrive, see all the behind-the-scenes carry-on, and maybe even get a credit in the show itself! How good would that feel?
It feels like it's time again...
...time for a battered camera under some blue skies on a beautiful Glasgow day.
Consolevania is:
Rab Florence, Ryan Macleod, Gerry McLaughlin and...
...you.
Look like it'll be exclusive to Patreon, but will probably "leak" to other video sites.
Original CVHere's a link to all the original episodes of CV. Which are still worth a watch, even if they are reviewing games that are a decade old now.
