Konami wrote:Two years after the Alien Wars had ended, a mysterious area called the Damned City arose from the grounds where the final battles took place.

Ruthless Fiends roamed the area, bringing a world full of madness.

In the midst of chaos, 5 scoundrels emerge...they are the ROGUE CORPS.

They do not look anything like heroes of justice, but have they come to save humanity, or maybe they are looking to hit the jackpot by searching the Damned City for treasures...either way, the fate of the world is in their hands.

Wikipedia wrote:The story is set several years after that of Contra III: The Alien Wars (1992). It takes place in Damned City, where people go mad from being there. It takes a top-down isometric view similar to Neo Contra. The game provides a single-player story campaign, multiplayer online cooperative, or four-player local cooperative (with separate Switch consoles) modes. It is based on player versus environment (PVE) gameplay, with dual analog controller sticks.

Players assume the roles of four classic Contra series characters, as a former military group of bounty hunters and treasure finders: Kaiser, a rebuilt cyborg from The Alien Wars; Ms. Harakiri, an assassin with a parasitic alien attached; The Gentleman, a well-cultured alien bug; and Hungry Beast, a brilliantly scientific cyborg giant panda.

Players configure a main weapon and sub-weapon in realtime. These have unlimited ammunition, but with a heat meter to be managed. Between stages, weapons are upgraded and uniquely customized. As a last resort, the player can clear the area with a huge bomb or use the character's special ability.

Hey Jawa.

So, anyone planning on getting this then? I like a bit of old-skool Contra but I wasn't convinced by the look of this on the first reveal.

I need to check out some of the newer videos on it to get a bit more of an idea of the game play I think.

Welcome back, dude.

I've only ever briefly played Contra but I do like the look of this. I'd definitely like to try it before deciding on a purchase.

Thanks, guys. Pedz and I have chatted and we're still buds.

Yeah, I gotta say that it's probably not gonna be to most folks' taste, Jen. It's in the vein of the more recent semi 3D Contras - and stuff like SmashTV or Loaded - than the more traditional 2D style Contra. The graphics are mediocre but I'm still gonna get it on Switch... I like this type of gameplay and I find the over-the-top styling pretty funny. It's very much a B-tier game with a low budget.

I'd urge a go on the demo before getting it, Gemini, because - as above - this is not like the more traditional Contra titles. Reviews are appearing and they're generally middling; with some outlets slating it but others indicating that the core gameplay is fun in places.

Loaded! That's the game that I was trying to think of when watching the reveal of this!

I have fond memories of playing a demo of that way back in the PS1 days. It reminded me a little of things like Alien Breed and Chaos Engine on the AMIGA as well which was no bad thing!

Never played much of Loaded. Played a fair whack of Re-Loaded.

I played the demo on Switch but it seems that there should be one for the PS4 one too, Gem - click here to view.

If this is anything like Alien Wars it should come with a free dose of propranolol.

It takes place in Damned City, where people go mad from being there.

Well that just sounds nasty.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

I've got my copy of Rogue Corps :toot: .

And it has lovely reversible cover atwork! As you can see, I was kinda excited by the standard art... but, having reversed the cover, I'm now pretty hyped!

That reversible cover is probably the best thing about the game.
