I know the Series S is a budget console targeting lower spec displays, but it’s kind of crazy to see a dev just come out and say their game isn’t 1080p on it because the hardware isn’t up to it, a mere 2 months into its life.

I'm really excited to play this and glad I held off during the recent sale. Feel like I want to play with ray tracing but I know 30fps will really bug me.

From what I've seen so far, ray tracing really isn't worth sacrificing half the framerate.

Thats a great PS+ game to add. I will probably opt for double the frame rate.

Frame rate is an odd one for me. So long as though the pacing is consistent, i find i can adapt fairly quickly. Whether the RT effects justify it remains to be seen of course.

I should add that 60fps makes a massive difference in some game types (mainly driving, platforming and FPS), but for "cinematic games" where combat is typically a bit looser i often dont think an even 30fps is not the end of the world.

As long as it's stable 30FPS is fine I've always found. I will never understand people's obsession with demanding 60FPS locked as everything else is trash.

It's more to what people get used to, I can't really enjoy 30fps now as the majority of what I play is now 60fps and the difference is huge (to me). I can't play Fallout76 for example at 30fps now, it feels 'off'. There's also the updates I've seen with my Series X on several games going from 30-60 which makes the difference all the more stark.

On the PC I mainly play games at 120 FPS. 30 is not nice. Rocket League on consoles feels God awful yo me now  and that's 60.

The moral is to not upgrade. Stick with what you know and be happy in ignorance.

Major benefit from 120 (from what I've read) is that if it drops from 120 to like 100/110 on occasion its barely noticeable. With 60 you'll still know when it hit's below 50.

30fps is "fine" because up till this gen that's probably what people have been used to and 60fps wasn't that common on console. The difference is like night and day in something like Sekiro, for example.

I'd much rather a focus on upping the framerate than having 4K if I'm completely honest.

strawberry float 60fps with a boring look.
Give me 30fps with lots of shiny and explosions.

strawberry float that, 4k does strawberry float all for a game compared to 60 FPS or 120 FPS.

The RT stuff on Control for PC was fun to look at for a bit but not worth it for the performance cost IMO

I think I've decided not to bother with RT. 60fps it is.

I dabbled with RT in Spider-Man and DMC5 but very quickly switched to performance mode and they were much better for it.

I would be happy with 60fps with RT @ 720p. Can that be a thing now?
