All of the boss fights, I found no problem but this one I am having a little trouble to beat him. :fp:

I just hid behind the big rock in the middle & popped my head out to shotgun/throw rocks at him. Just kept the big rock in between me & him. Read you can go up to the platform above to make it easier.

Yea, I seem to remember heading for high ground made it a lot easier.

The Foundation is done. It was not too bad

I'll start AWE soon. Am I right that it is linked with Alan Wake?

I've been trying to focus more on finishing games that I've half completed so have come back to this over the last couple of days. Now that I'm (seemingly) getting nearer the end of it I'm finding myself having more fun than I was - upgrading my weapons and powers more has made the combat feel more satisfying than ever (outside of the bullshit bosses) and the ridiculous story has hooked me again so unless it falls apart completely at the end I think I'll come out of this with a pretty happy feeling overall.

As an aside I was also convinced that I had only bought the "base game" version of this so was getting increasingly surprised by just how Alan Wake heavy some of the missions were getting to the point where it seemed insane that they would be leaning on the franchise so much. Then after finishing that section I looked it up and it turns out I was playing the Alan Wake DLC! :fp:

I've quite liked the little nods to other Remedy games that have been littered throughout this game, even if they don't have the rights to stuff like Max Payne any more it's still fun to see them drop in small bits to link back to it :D

I finished the DLC's the other day. By the end i had really soured on the game in truth. The difficulty spikes on some of the fights were so severe to me that i had to use the assist mode several times , else i would never have made it the end. I am glad that they put that system in, but it also made it feel a bit of a get out of jail card for below average design in places.

What did please me was that i never found the game confusing to navigate. Also the tone of it was great, and there were some memorable scenes and great lore drops.

So yeah, this game seems massively overated to me, but i did think it was good still. I personally much preferred Quantum Break, and everyone else seems to hate that.

Starting to find this a bit of a slog now. Spent some time away from it and struggling to get back into it.

I just met Dylan for the first time. Do I have long left and is it worth seeing through? Is the ending conclusive?

You're over halfway but there's still a bit to go (less if your not bothering with the DLC)

I enjoyed the late game as the powers and upgrades came together nicely to make the combat sing nicely but if you're not loving it now there's nothing coming that will change your mind I don't think

I finished it. It was good but the ending was pretty underwhelming and while the Oldest House was a well realised location it did get very samey and repetitive.

Gameplay was pretty satisfying though.

They definitely could have done with mixing up the locations and visuals a bit more - as you say the Oldest House does get a bit samey. The lore would have allowed them to get away with all sorts of things that might have helped break it up but they didn't really take advantage of it enough

Yep-that exact thought did occur to me in the final third. "They could literally justify going anywhere here....why am I still in offices"

Also, while well done, the sheer volume of the world building stuff meant I gave up on it towards the end.

Solid 7/10 game for me overall I think.

Sounds like Remedy are finally making Alan Wake 2 which I guess was expected after DLC

I find the revival of Alan Wake on the back of Control's success to be nearly identical to how M Night Shyamalan revived Bruce Willis's Unbreakable character following the success of Split. Hopefully what comes next turns out a lot better than Glass and that Alan Wake can stay away from any remarkable puddle tech.

I actually didn't like how they tied Alan Wake into it. I mean, it was cool and I enjoyed the reference but I liked Alan Wake more as a separate, supernatural story rather than a sci fi thing.

I think linking Alan Wake into Control actually improved my opinion of it. I was never a big fan of AW but it becoming part of a wider, connected world was a smart move IMO.

I'd still rather have more Control than something Wake focused next though.

For everything I disliked about this game, I keep thinking about it often and want to play it again. Might give it another download and polish off the platinum and the AW stuff.

There are quite a few things it does wrong but at the same time when it gets things right it's a really impressive and enjoyable game to play. The tone and story/lore on display in this were much more appealing to me than Alan Wake.
