Maybe I’m just used to 30fps, but it’s perfectly smooth for me. The effects bonus you get from Graphics mode make it look incredible, some of the effects have had my eyes popping out. You do also get some weird uncanny valley stuff though, particularly with the ray tracing, when it’s doing something really clever but in a computer dumb way so you’re eye knows something is off.

Maybe it’s just what you are used to and how you adjust? I feel sick playing at 30FPS nowadays, but that’s following a while of 60FPS+.

I liken it to wine. You drink the £3 stuff and it’s nice. You buy a decent bottle for a treat and all of a sudden the £3 stuff is rough as.

There is a lot to be said for not bothering buying the expensive wine, you get sucked in and committed then.

Anyway. MS still haven’t updated the PC game pass version of this, so still no DLSS as it’s an old (DX11) version on PC gamepass.

In some games the upgrade from 30-60 is just a big benefit. Destiny 2, Sea of Thieves, The Division 2, AC Valhalla and State of Decay 2 all play much better than before but don't necessarily change the core of the game play. Contol on the other hand had such a cack handed last gen implementation that this 60 mode is more pronounced than before, I feels like a generational leap (which it kind of is).

I’ve still yet to see anything graphics-wise that’s good enough to sacrifice half the frame rate for a less responsive and more sluggish feeling controls.

I've picked up and dropped this a few times now as it has never quite grabbed me, no idea how far into I actually am but I definitely want to come back and finish it as it keeps flirting with being an excellent game

I'm in the v lucky position of still getting 100+fps at ultra settings with RTX on but yeah, it looks nice I guess but isn't worth sacrificing framerate for.

The only truly mindblowing use of ray tracing I've seen is, weirdly enough, in Quake 2 RTX which runs a whole lot slower than Control (around 70fps ave)

What a bunch of wankers.

Finished, but going to get the Platinum as I was most of the way there anyway. Kind of forgot how short the game is if you mainline it. And that after a great build up with the corridor maze rock music and taking down the Hadron the finale through the red shade is pretty bland and crap.

So just started this tonight. It’s fun but wow it looks incredible, especially once you get into the maintenance area. Lovely.

Are you guys changing the difficulty settings much from default, or is it a sensible challenge?

I started playing as normal, I think I’m pretty decent at games but it is a challenge. I am dieing reasonably frequently, especially if I am not paying attention. I thought about turning it down, but I’ll persist for a bit more.

I don't remember ever having to play with the difficulty in normal fights, and like Bertie said the only times I died was from being cocky and losing track of the enemies around me.

The strawberry floating boss fights though.

Looks like Series X gets close to 60fps with Ray Tracing ON at 1440p in this game.

They reckon SX could run it 60fps/1080p with RT on no problem and I'm annoyed now they haven't given us that option tbh.

Looks like a good lead for Xbox. Shame it does hit a solid 60. They could have tweaked a couple of settings to nail that.

Started the AWE DLC.

My god this game does not shut the strawberry float up. I don’t know if it’s part of the theming, government agency being overwhelmed in paperwork kind of thing, or if it’s just in love with it’s own world. But it really seems to try and test the players patience with notes to pickup and dialogue that just goes on and on and on and on.
