Yeah those videos are fun, as are the insane rambles of Dr. Darling

Those videos are mental, I've found 2 so far.

And I love exploring for secrets, so I'm searching everywhere. I've found a few by climbing up and behind things, stuff like that.

This type of game is why I always try to avoid trailers for games, it's so nice to go in to something like this with no expectations and be pleasantly surprised. Of course it can backfire every now and then.

There were stretches of this game that I really, really liked - where the story was doing interesting things, the combat was engaging, the powers felt really rewarding to use etc. But there were just a few too many parts where it all kind of fell over sadly

I'd love to see what they could do with a sequel

Did you just play it the once, Jenuall?

Yeah I played through once and did the DLC but I've not gone back to it.

Is there anything particularly compelling about doing a second run? Is there a NG+ option?

I don't think there's a NG+. The reason I asked is because I was very lukewarm after playing it once. But then I started all over again, ignoring the hundreds of collectables, and found that I fell in love with it completely on a second playthrough. I was just interested in whether other people had had the same reaction as, for me, the stopping to read everything first time around really dampened my initial enjoyment of the game.

Ah okay, that's nice that you warmed up to it second time around!

I actually didn't mind reading the lore stuff, for the most part it was one of the positive aspects for me, it's just some of the occasional wonky gameplay decisions and pacing issues that brought it down IMO.

I still enjoyed it overall and like I say I would be very interested to see more of the world they established

I'm really enjoying this, the throwing power when fully upgraded (damage wise) is great in large encounters, and is easy to target. I also like the way it'll drag something from behind an enemy to hit them if you're behind a pillar or something.

Only real complaint at the moment is navigating to side missions that give a vague description of where to go, as them map isn't very helpful for areas that have layers on top of each other.

I finished the main game a few days back. Other than a few so so parts, I really enjoyed it. I've also played through the AWE DLC which was pretty good, apart from the woeful final boss. Currently doing the foundation DLC which seems a bit pants so far, just a load of void style blocks to stand on and fight. Not sure I'll finish that if it doesn't improve but I'd like to see it all through.

Being fully powered up by the end was so good, chucking 3 blocks of masonry at enemies, dodging to replenish ammo and possessing enemies never got old.

Decided to re-start my first PS5 run on this.

I know some aren't keen on the gunplay in this, and while I find there to be nothing really wrong with it (other than when it borked the right trigger on my PS4 pad), it's when I'm using telekinetic powers that I feel the game comes alive; wanging gooseberry fool at, and crashing into people with Jesse's mental powers never gets old!

I've finally settled on playing in 60 fps mode and not switching to RT mode every other minute.

I really hope they find a unobtrusive waypoint system in the next game. I like the thing they use in this, but you pretty much have to be looking at it for it to be of use, and that isn't much help in what can be, even for someone used to the game, a confusing building to navigate through.

Oh and, I don't think I realised in my PS4 playthrough that the Hotline videos were different to what you'd seen and heard in the game world. That is, at least, the ones I've seen up to now are, anyway.

Yeah I’ve been replaying this on the PS5.

The map is still shite. It’s plain confusing due to the way they just slap the whole sector in one layer without an option to go up or down a floor. It’s a bad design.

I also found the map really confusing, often with me going round in circles when I'd need to be a floor below, or a warp point seeming close by, but being in a different area. Early on I also didn't know where to go, as the next part was only accessed via the lift, but the game hadn't told me that.

Yeah the map was definitly the worst aspect of the game for me. Even once you work out the levels are different shades it's still really confusing. Not sure why they didn't go for seperate levels like most maps in games. Still really enjoyed the game and was a great first dip into Ray Tracing for me.

I played twice and the floors being different shades on the map is news to me

It would have been so simple to have Polaris appear on the route to the destination instead of the destination alone. But I think your clue as to where to go / where you will end up is... the game plays a short piece of footage of said location  (So, on my last session, the game played a clip of the foyer leading to the Research department I had to get. Not sure if it did that for the other missions, though...)

Played this yesterday for the first time, up until the Hotline part.

...am I meant to understand the storyline at all by this point? Because so far, nope.
