7 is ridiculous. I haven't touched any of the timed missions (really odd design decision there as there's almost no motivation to do the things, and the notifications seem to pop up at the most inappropriate times), did a few side quests and I'm 10-15 hours in with no end in sight.

Hi everyone. Antonela from 505 Games and Vida from Remedy here. Before we get started, we want to say a HUGE thank you to everyone for an incredible launch week. You’ve filled our social timelines with so much enthusiasm, passion and love for Control. For the team here at 505 Games and Remedy, this support has meant the absolute world and we’re so overwhelmed with the positivity from our players. So again, thank you!

We want to address some of the feedback from our players. Hopefully this blog gives you some answers and reassurance.

Here are some of the things we are addressing. By no means is this a complete list!

PC RTX ISSUES
In most cases RTX issues are solved by making sure you have the latest version of Windows 10 (1903)

MOTION BLUR
Some good news – As part of our next update (tentatively mid to late September) we’ll be providing players with an ON/OFF toggle for Motion Blur and Film Grain. This will come to all platforms.

MAP
We hear you and we’re addressing the issues reported! Our developers are working to improve how the in-game map loads to ensure that all the relevant info displays immediately and correctly, as it should. We’ll provide more info on this very soon.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENTS
Right now, the team are looking at possible ways of improving console optimization in Control, but as you can hopefully understand, these things do take time and don’t happen at the press of a button (as much as we wish they did). We are also examining specific issues that some players have been experiencing and looking for fixes on those. When we have more info, we will be sure to let you know across our community channels.

HDR
Early on in Control’s development, it was decided that HDR would not be implemented in-game. This is a decision based on the fact that development resources are limited, and we need to allocate what we have in a certain way. Moving into post launch, we prefer to use the resources we have to focus on future free content for Control like the Photo Mode. We realize this may disappoint some players, but we hope the additions we plan to bring to Control more than make up for the absence of HDR.

WHAT’S NEXT?
To wrap things up, we want to take this opportunity to make it clear that this is just the beginning. Next week, we hope to provide our players with an update on future content plans something we know many of you are very keen on. Stay tuned for more information on that!

In the meantime, we hope this update reassures our players that we’re working behind the scenes on improving and bringing new content to Control. Just please be patient as the development team at Remedy is doing its best. Thanks once again for your continued show of support.

Speak soon!

Oh man. I think I am nearing the end now and I've just reached a bit that is retro in its difficulty and checkpoint placement that it's knocking an entire point off my score. Waves and waves of increasingly overwhelming enemies with zero checkpoints and a save point a minute walk from the start.

For a game that's otherwise been perfectly balanced this gooseberry fool is amateur.

I think I must be playing very slow for everyone to have overtaken me.

Just doing the mould side quests, which is great.

And done with the main campaign.

V good indeed, a solid 9 from me.

EDIT: Minus one clever turn the ending was quite poor however.

It’s set in the same universe as Alan Wake.

Really bloody loving this now. There are so many hidden away area and side quests that send you off to go explore them. Doing lots of the side missions really does show of what superb level design the game has. I think it’s getting to be up there with Resi 2 and Sekiro for me, the only stuff holding it back is the appalling map and ongoing technical difficulties.

And Done.

Just fantastic. Got off to a slow start but it really ramps up in the second half to become a proper Metroidvania psychologically Sci-Fi superhero thriller. The setting while initially a little dreary unfolds to become this wonderfully bonkers matryoshka puzzle box, constantly unfolding to show you cool new stuff. In a year of Resi 2 and Sekiro, this might bag the award for best level design which is no mean feat. The abilities are perhaps the star of the show as everything is so easy to control and provides you with perhaps the best sense of being a superhero I’ve ever experienced in a game. Flying, chucking stuff around and shooting all feels super smooth and really satisfying when you’re really powered up. The story side of things is a really great original take for a AAA game, not normally my style and if I’m honest I’m not sure I understood it all but it had me gripped to a rather peculiar ending. Can’t wait for the analysis videos to start coming out.

Loved the fact I could basically platinum it in one run as well. Got 8 alternate outfits, which I think is them all and only need to do a couple of combat things and get the last node of the skill tree to 100% which is just perfect. Has a bit of the Alien Isolation about it, in that I’m not sure I’ll go back to replay it but I’ll be there day one for DLC or any sequel. The great thing is they’ve set it up perfectly now and it would be great to see them return to this world.

Only thing that holds it back are the technical issues which are significant and stuff like checkpoints before bosses and load times being really quite bad.

Fantastic stuff Remedy

9/10

How good is the world building? I loved Alan Wake, and I strawberry floating love SCP stuff, so is there lots of flavour text and stuff to set the scene? Or is just a plod through 'Generic Underground Research Facility 452'?

It probably has more flavour text than any game I’ve ever played. It can be a bit haphazardly scattered around though.

Thematically it's this for sure. Everyone's just there to do a job, Jan's been moaning about her lunch going missing again and the new director seems nice but is a little slow. Then you realise the executive bathroom has phase shifted out of existence and the conference room ate Brad.

There are also so many collectible paper reports, audio logs and FMV videos to find I spent probably a good third of my time just reading or watching stuff and still every time one appeared it became my priority to get hold of it. The writing is uniformly excellent.

Control entered at No 4 in the UK Physical Charts, 58% down on Quantum Break so probably 8-10k at Retail - https://www.mcvuk.com/astral-chain-beat ... l-to-no-1/

I've spent far too much time fiddling around with settings and going back and forth between having Ray Tracing on and off :fp:

Very interesting in getting the game but got Astral Chain instead, certainly getting it when it drops to £30, which hopefully won't be too long.
