Suited the action bits certainly. What, did the music ruin it for you?

No, but every one keeps mentioning how good that section is when it's really nothing special.

They played some music while you fight some enemies. I was waiting for it to kick up a notch and it never did.

Without wanting to spoil it, for me it was the spectacle of the thing and the music rather than the combat. Also I had no idea it was coming, so maybe that helped me enjoy it – I sometimes find that when I am told something is amazing, etc I am often left disappointed. (2 random occurrences of this: Anchorman and the opening of The Last of Us.)

I'm well into the post game but only just picked up the ground pound ability :fp: I had no idea I'd be able to aim the strawberry floating thing, nor how satisfying it'd feel :x

I was expecting a clean hole.

Platinum GET :toot: It was strawberry floating gruelling though, having to seek out one hidden location after another :dread: And would it have killed them to include a counter for completed Board Countermeasures?! :fp:

I have until the end of August before the game gets taken off PSNow, so I might as well wait to see if DLC comes down in price before then. But on the other hand, it is only £11...

Why didn't any of you strawberry floats tell me this?! Why am I even a member here?!

What are you FOR?

There's no mention of Alan Wake in the original game. Not outright and explicit and no hint, not that I'm aware of. Had you played the original game you'd know why carrying on Alan Wake's story is possible: Control deals with multiple dimensions/realities. So I am assuming one of the worlds that interacts with/bleeds into The Oldest House will be Alan's.

It well worth getting anyway. It's a fantastic game EVEN THOUGH it has quite severe performance issues on every format bar maybe ninja PCs. In a way, it's Alan Wake dialled up to 11.

Bought the main game and season pass for cheap in the Epic Games Sale and I really like it. My favourite Remedy game in years.

There's a few references in the documents you can pick up.

Alright so I’m about 5 hours in now, and I reckon;

World building is *sublime* - the Threshold Kid show is spot on and the rest of the SCP stuff is lovely. I read every single scrap of paper I find because I love every bit of it.
Combat - solid, satisfying, workmanlike and that’s not an insult. Interactions with enemies feel like good fights. The powers are fun and really add to combat.

But

Level design and actual game environment; boring as gooseberry fool. Literally nothing I haven’t seen a thousand times before. It’s just another office/industrial complex like every other 3rd/FPS since 2008. I’m truly amazed at how dull the regular environment is given how much thought went into the flavour of all the rest of the world building.

I actually went to restart Alan Wake because I kept being reminded, regardless of how good bits of Control are, how much better the same things were in AW.

A few people on my Twitter feed really love the Brutalist architecture. While I don't love it as much as they do, I can see the beauty in it and found the atmosphere it projected quite a large draw.

I can see that. AW, with its Pacific north west coast Twin Peaks vibe is almost tailor made as an environment I would personally forgive all flaws in because it’s just my thing. Maybe Control’s aesthetics just ain’t my bag.

Still gonna finish it because I’m loving the story and the world building, just do not like the actual levels.

The boss battles are maddening but mostly because load times are so slow.

Good. Doubly so when you see what diversity there is there. Not masses of it, but there are areas which are different enough to leave a lasting impression.

I think I’m about 3/4 of the way through and I’m loving it. I’ve warmed to the aesthetics too, and found like 3 or 4 documents about Alan Wake.

Can you go back and mop up side quests? Coz the map system is.... questionable.

Some side quests remain available after you complete the main story, but some are time-limited.

The map is quite universally disliked. It's one of the few genuinely bad aspects of the game.
