I agree. On the one hand I like how there are no waypoints but it wouldn't have hurt that design choice if, once you got to within a certain range of your target location, Polaris somehow guided you in.

Can you go back and mop up side quests? Coz the map system is.... questionable.

Yay.

I have no idea what I did, but I beat it in moments. (Though I did beat it post game, so I may have been overpowered.) There's even a cheap way of beating it, if you care to look it up.

Oh mate, there's a way to cheese it? I'll be looking that up then. It's just a pain because I can deal quite a bit of damage but it's got that cheap as strawberry float arm slap move that basically an instakill. Really annoys me how far the checkpoint is from the fight too. That strawberry floating huge drop and then running through those corridors with the banana spliting bastards who you can avoid 95% of time but if they get just one hit in that's like 30% of your health gone with no real chance to get any back before the fight starts.

I saw someone mention a tactic on cheesing it when I was looking for its location. I hope it's still there but Remedy have patched some things out with certain updates. Like originally, the optional ground smash ability could be aimed above parallel to the ground, but they "fixed it" so the reticule vanishes above parallel. So they may well have fixed the cheesing of the mold boss as well. Maybe.

You may want to check out a playthrough of the zone, because I am sure it has, at the very least, one or two checkpoints.

Yea, it's weird, there's a spot right by the entrance to the fight that seems tailor made for a checkpoint and then there's nothing. It even has a couple of the lamps that you normally find by control points, but just not an actual checkpoint.

I think I need to move more by the looks of it, I was trying to take some relative cover behind the biggest chunk but I think too many attacks can still pin you there.

I have not enjoyed my time with this at all, it hasn't grabbed me. That said, this happens with me from time to time so I may like it down the road. The load times after dying are long so boss battles can be a slog.

The boss battles are so unpredictable. After having to cheese my way through the Mold boss after failing it for a couple of hours, I came across the Anchor and defeated it first time.

That might actually be the easiest boss battle ever.

I gave up after the first real boss, ridiculously hard.
But like y’all I’d probably go back and end up doing it first time!

Probably good to release it on a console that can handle panning the camera slowly to the right without exploding.

Glad I waited, initial thoughts are this will be a full on release rather than a patch for the current gen versions

Finished this last night and holy gooseberry fool, sign me up for the ‘Ashtray Maze is one of the best things I’ve played in a long time’ crew. Alan Wake was full of references to House of Leaves but it took them making Control to make the Navidson Report into a playable level! And with Poets of the Fall playing in the background it was awesome, and I really liked how they carefully looped certain riffs so that when you hit enemies it’s timed to match with the swells in the music.

Liked thefake out ending and the bit where you’re an office temp for a bit too, but I did think the final traversing of the astral plane was a bit of an anticlimax.

strawberry floating ace game though.

When's the Alan Wake DLC?
