Tbh it's more disappointing that you can't have both the visual and high framerates in games on these new consoles and still have to choose.

But thats the game isn't it? Keep pushing just beyond the realms of what is achievable. Keeps the game relevant for longer as the origional vision is not fully realised until down the road (see also Crysis).

I’ve downloaded this from game pass on PC but they have disabled DLSS. It crashes loads too on PC with the version that have put on game pass. MS need to sort it out.

How can they disable DLSS? What GPU do you have? Is it capable of RT?

I happily played through the game on PC (Epic Store version) with everything whacked on full with a locked down 30fps as when gooseberry fool kicked off it looked spectacular so I’ll be going graphics mode on console too.

They have dropped the Directx 11 version on the store. I have an RTX 3070, so capable of RT.

When you open control, DLSS is greyed out and says ‘need an RTX card’. As it’s MS game pass you can’t modify the executable, so it won’t run in DX12.

Shambles.

Ultimately, Control has transitioned nicely onto the next generation machines. It's clearly a big step-up over the last-gen versions of the game - even running on PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. The ray tracing effects are beautiful, while playing Control at 60fps takes the gameplay to another level. It's also nice to see that slick, smooth transformation in the experience delivered on all of the new machines, even the budget-orientated Xbox Series S. Remedy itself has mentioned that this is just the beginning of their efforts in embracing the next generation of console hardware and that there's much more to come in future - and based on what the team managed to extract from last-gen hardware, the possibilities are mouthwatering. We'll be taking a more detailed look at game performance and comparisons across all next-gen systems as soon as we can. However, having sampled the fully patched PlayStation 5 rendition of the game, the idea that this excellent conversion is being given away free with PlayStation Plus may well make this one of the best line-ups we've seen from the service.

I watch the Digital Foundry video on TV and some of the ray tracing effects are subtle but fantastic. As it doesn't seem to be a game that is predominantly fast motion like Miles Morales when I get around to playing this I will go for the graphics option.

Mine updated overnight. A welcome surprise is that the Series X file is barely larger than the One version - 42.5GB/42.1GB.

I can’t believe they never properly fixed the map in this

Going through it a second time. It’s really great, like nothing else. I’m on performance mode and am struggling to notice much of a difference, reflections are nice and maybe the office detritus is more readable too but other than that, I’m not sure.

One thing I do remember is the overwhelming amount of lore you pick up. I’ve played an hour and already have about 30 things to read.

If you’re struggling to see the difference between 1080p/30 and 1440p/60 I’m not sure how to respond. Reflections are the same as before in performance mode, it’s just has a better resolution and framerate. This game needs 60, the Ray Tracing is impressive but the game feels really sluggish.

Sluggish is definitely not how I would describe it.

God damn I forgot how good this game was

I really am envious of the PS5 haptics. I keep hearing how good they are for this game too.

The shooting for the basic gun feels strange but cool because of the pressure, some might even question it’s value as it does start to get a little tiring. The Pierce weapon though has this really funny vibration to a high pitch, it’s very unique and adds an extra dimension to the gunplay.

Oh man, I can't wait to try this out but I'm going to finish The Outer Worlds first as I just have far too many games on the go.

Some of the bosses are a right pain in the arse. I think the one I always hated most was the Former. It was an optional boss I think though. My main issue with it was that its attacks smashed holes in the floor and if you fell into one of them you instantly died and had to restart. The levitate skill was no good as once you were falling all it would do was slow your fall, it couldn't pull you back up again.

The 60 fps is a game changer for this, the choppiness on OG XB1 really put me off.

Played couple hours, looking forward to DLC as well.

The 30fps mode is still choppy as anything. Will be 60fps without the ray tracing which is a bit of a shame.

I gave up on this last time near the end due to difficulty spikes and that bloody map. I'm enjoying it more this time. Combat feels good and the movement is great. It's a game that like The Evil Within 2 deserves more love and in years to come will be on loads of hidden gem lists.

Wish my image sig would work
