That is a perfect description, Jenuall!

I still really love the game though and I feel like I'll be getting the platinum on this one.

Oh God, the map or the bosses, can't remember which was worse.

Map probably, at least with the bosses I knew where the bullshit was.

The map is annoying but everywhere you need to go is literally signposted on the walls.

The 2 big DLCs were super disappointing. AWE was straight trash and the Foundation was just dull. Even someone who loved the worldbuilding stuff as much as I do found it really arduous.

Still a class experience overall, but not without its flaws.

I'm not finished yet but on the whole I'd say I've liked but not loved this. There are some great things about it - aspects of the story and worldbuilding are great but others are tired, most of the combat is excellent but every now and then it's just cheap.

In honesty I don't think I've really loved a Remedy game since Max Payne 2. And that was 17 years ago now!

This has been my experience so far. I was really nervous about this game being a disaster for me (i am terrible with navigating 3D maps, Doom 2016 and Fallen Order were painful to me), but so far the map has felt almost like just a way of giving you a sense of space and the feel of a coherent structure. I love walking simulators so i am a bit of a boss when it comes to following signs :datass:

Did anyone here ever see The Lost Room? The story in Control really is a complete rip off, even down to the mysterious motel. The only thing they added here was the FBC. Even the endings are equally unsatisfying between both stories.

I honestly don't know how they got away with it

Never heard of the Lost Room but Control clearly takes a lot of inspiration from SCP Foundation stuff.

Perhaps The Lost Room ripped off SCP, come to think of it

Nah, pretty sure Lost Room predates SCP?

Either way Control is obviously riffing on plenty of common sci-fi/conspiracy sub-culture tropes so it was never going to feel like the most original piece of work.

The best bit about this game is the astral maze section. If only there were more sections like this.

What happened?

I thought it had glitched but apparently was trying to access it too early. I had to look it up in the end which then ruined the surprise.

Towards the end of the maze, in the room with the rising platforms, none of the platforms were appearing so I couldn't reach the exit. I had to restart the whole section to get it to work. Really killed the moment.

I have literally just got to this bit (as in I am clearly supposed to tackle it now). Is there anyway to know if it has gone wrong? My sense of direction is awful so the fear that it has bugged out will be constantly at the back of my mind unless there is a clear flag for me to look for. Don’t mind being lost, as long as though it my own doing!

It's fairly linear and always obvious where you need to go. It was clear something had gone wrong in my game as the door out of the area was out of levitation's reach and nothing in the room was changing.

You should be fine. If you go there too early it's basically just a circle of 4 rooms with no obvious way to progress.

They've acknowledged the SCP inspiration I think.

Never heard of the Lost Room, but Warehouse 13 and Cabin In The Woods also had similar concepts. It's not unique by any means, but Control does the idea justice fo sho.

Thanks. The first time I was there it took me to the path that immediately proceeded the quest. I have had no problem so far with the layout of the game tbf, all the signs etc in game have been much easier for me to parse than any metroidvania map I have come across.

Up to Chapter Five now.

It's a bit strange but I enjoy it.
