PostCool Shop UK & ShopTo - Opinions
by Jonathan86 » Thu Jan 07, 2010 1:58 pm

Hello all,

I've recently discovered http://www.gamestracker.com for comparing game prices online. However, the two shops in the title seem to always have the titles I'm searching for at the cheapest price. So before I take the plunge and order from either of them, I was just wondering if anyone had ordered from them before, and if so, what are your opinions on them?

Cheers

I've used ShopTo a fair bit, and they've always been reliable and generally the cheapest around for new releases. I was aware a while back somebody on the forum (can't remember who but I'm sure someone does) got their credit card scammed when they used the site, but as far as I know that was a one-off. But for me, they're pretty good.

Oh and of course the best way to protect yourself when buying things online is to always use a credit card, instead of a debit card. That way, if you do happen to get scammed then at least you are covered and you don't actually lose any money personally from your own bank account ;)

It wasn't just a single person, a huge number of people on this forum had to cancel debit and credit cards (myself included) and the only common thing between us all was ShopTo.

I still call bullshit on the whole story though, as I have used them a lot in the past and continue to use them now with no problems.

The cards could have been cloned anywhere, and it could have been coincidental that so many got hit at the same time.

I've used both, to no ill effect. Use Paypal with shopto if you are worried.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Never had a problem with ShopTo. Free next day delivery if you order before 5:30pm, and they pretty much always get preorder to you a day or two before release day. They usually have the best prices, too.

Insolvency Service (South East)

BERKSHIRE DIRECTOR BANNED FOR FIVE YEARS

The director of a computer games distribution business that failed with total debts estimated at around £1million has given an Undertaking not to hold directorships or take any part in company management for five years.

The Undertaking by Igor Flavio Cipolletta, age 31, of Bracknell Road, Warfield, Berkshire was given in respect of his conduct as director of E D Games Limited, which carried on business from premises at Unit 17, The Western Centre, Western Road, Bracknell, Berkshire.

Acceptance of the Undertaking on 1 October 2004 prevents Igor Flavio Cipolletta from being a director of a company or, in any way, whether directly or indirectly, being concerned or taking part in the promotion, formation or management of a company for the above period.

E D Games Limited ("ED") was placed into voluntary liquidation on 2 October 2002 with estimated debts of £974,259 owed to creditors.

The Insolvency Service, on behalf of the Secretary of State for Trade & Industry, has responsibility (under Section 6 of the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986) for the investigation of the conduct of directors of failed companies and for the disqualification of those who are considered to be unfit to be involved in the management of companies in the future.

Matters of unfit conduct, not disputed by Igor Flavio Cipolletta were that:

* he caused or allowed ED to trade to the detriment of the Crown in that he failed to make proper returns to Crown departments from November 2000 onwards and failed to make remittances of sums due to the Crown;

* on 3 September 2002 he transferred a vehicle owned by ED, with an estimated value of £30,000, to one of ED's creditors in settlement of a debt. This transaction was made at a time when ED was failing to discharge its obligations to the Crown.

Guess who runs ShopTo? Yes, Mr Cipolletta.

Thanks for pointing out the card fraud stuff guys. I can't believe I missed it at the time! I don't care how great they are nowadays, I just can't bring myself to use a company with a dodgy past just to save a couple of quid.

Pratically every major site has had some kind of card hack or security breach at some point, if there was an apparent high risk of your card details were going to go afray they I am sure the site would be effectively closed down by the banks as they wouldrefuse to give them credit if they can't look after their security.

And Fishy tl:dr
