Sounds like a good way to get a week off playing video games.

Thanks. A lot of misunderstood jokes have just been realised!!

Thing is Corona ends with a sound like 'a' I not 'er'. Failure on the title.

Clearly from the south.

Up north it's "ker-own-er". Like the larger.

I don't think it's the grammatical problems that are really holding the joke back from greatness. ;)

I don't think grammar is the same as pronunciation ;)

In linguistics, grammar (from Ancient Greek γραμματική) is the set of structural rules governing the composition of clauses, phrases and words in a natural language. The term refers also to the study of such rules and this field includes phonology, morphology and syntax, often complemented by phonetics, semantics and pragmatics.

Phonology is a branch of linguistics concerned with the systematic organization of sounds in spoken languages

I’m confused, why is this called Coronavirus, it is a form of Coronavirus yes but so was SARS. Why hasn’t this virus been given it’s own specific title?

Well it is "novel coronavirus" or nCoV technically, just like SARS was SARS-CoV, and all the other variations have their own identifier, people just tend to have ditched the novel bit for brevity I guess.

Think they're calling it Covid-19 now.

There must be a bunch of nerds in these labs who spend hours trying to get these things defined by some vaguely threatening name or a snappy acronym.

I suppose you could argue it's easier to educate the public about something if it's name is easy to remember.

A snappy name will always get more recognition, hence why the Golden State Killer was such a big deal and so many other prolific killers are not.

It's also where you kill. California gets you more coverage.

That's a weird example to choose. The GSK was such a big deal because he operated for over a decade in different areas, committing numerous burglaries, dozens of rapes before moving onto murder whilst evading capture the entire time. He'd never have been caught if not for a familial DNA match.

One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

But without the GSK moniker devised by Michelle McNamara, the media would never have caught on like they did, and public awareness of the killer would've remained lower.
